I think just the fact that so far, the Wii has sold over 10 million in less than a year, while the Gamecube sold only 21 million in 5 years shows that Wii buyers are not primarily Gamecube owners. I expect Wii sales in Japan to eclipse all-time Gamecube sales in Japan before December 31, 2007.

Woah there, that's quite a prediction, you seem to be very confident about this. Are you sure that this will happen? Would you bet money on it?

After all the Wii would have to sell an additional 600k units in only 4 months...

lol, it's all but certain that it will pass GC this year.  A more bold prediction would be that Wii will pass N64 sales total by the end of the year, its possible.

10% isn't a bad percentage this early in the game for market growth with a console that is hard to find in many areas. It'd likely get even larger after it's easier to get, some price breaks and games like WiiFit are released.

To cash in my CC rewards points for $300 in Circuit City gift cards to purchase a 360 or not: That is the question.

Yeah. The Wii isn't even at the mass market price yet. Imagine what a $50 dollar price cut would do for the Wii. A 20% price drop should increased demand 40%.

I agree that the Wii has nowhere near maxed it's sales potential. I don't think we'll see a price drop though until Xmas 08. Maybe a little earlier if the 360 core manages to hit a competitive price point.

I'm sorry but this makes Microsoft look way too weak.

Anyone here thinks that Nintendo FUD is contradictory? First thing, MS said the Wii had no lasting appeal and could not deliver experiences like Madden (I would be very happy if this was true) or Halo. Their point is that Wii owners would get bored fast and that real gamers would look for a better experience. In this scenario Nintendo focus on casual would lead them to their doom.
Now MS is saying that there is no new gamers, it is most ex GC owners. If this was real not only sales would be slower, but focus would be on the core games. GC players are some of the most hardcore gamers I know.
Now I ask which one will make Wii fail, the focus on new gamers or the hardcore GC owners?

How is it going to increase demand? The demand is at maximum!!! Nintendo cant keep up with making the wii's so people can buy it!! Just stating facts kids. A price drop wont increase demand if there arent any wii's to sell.

mM

I predict another prediction........

The Nintendo Wii will have its first price cut in the year 2009! Yeah, I'm too nice!

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

Ms is not dumb, they know they cant take on the PS3 by them self.
