Alright, I'm done playin' it. It's fairly short, But I squeezed in a hour which allowed me to do all 3 tutorials and the plane level 3 times. So here's my impressions on the demo.
NightstrikerX's Wanted: Weapons of Fate Demo Impressions. (Xbox 360)
Hide and Go Seek.
A main Aspect of this game, is the multi-layered and innovative Cover System. Which I must say, is done very well. If there's one thing about this game that I absolutely loved while playing it, was being able to very quickly dive from one piece of cover to another. Infact, not only does this allow you the comfort of being able to analyze your surroundings from various view-points, but so long as you don't expose yourself by firing your guns, killing someone, or coming out of cover. It also allows you to quietly reposition yourself as your prey foolishly thinks your still hiding behind your original Cover allowing for a stealthy knife kill or head-shot while in the midst of a heated gun-fight. Not bad huh?
Another function of the cover system allows you to enter Assassin time. Or the bullet time of Wanted: Weapons of Fate. I havn't been able to figure out if you can enter assassin time from a standing position. But with all the cover lying around. Who wants to? While in Assassin time, you spray forth a ridicious amount of bullets from your guns. The few seconds you get can easily allow you to kill 2, maybe 3 enemies before retreating behind another piece of cover.
The Final Function of cover, allows you to sneak up and kill baddies with a quick stab if your knife. Providing the cover isn't too big between the two of you, and you are close enough. A quick press of B will dispatch your enemy and net you 2 adrenaline points.
If I was to complain about the cover system, my only complaint would be that it's to detach from cover at times. Since cover is such a nessessary part of the game, and many functions require you to stay in cover. Detaching can really screw you over. It's as easy as turning the camera to detach really. Bummer.
I Can Curve the Bullet! But Do I want to?
Fans of the Wanted Movie will be pleased to know that yes, you can curve the bullet. And yes, you can do it often, very often. Curving the Bullet requires you one point of adrenaline, and killing a enemy with a curved bullet. Or well, killing a enemy either way nets you one point of adrenaline. What's this mean? A talented assassin can go though a entire level curving bullets and so long as they kill every target they find with that curved bullet. They'll never have to resort to traditional means of violence again. So long as they're ammo supply never runs out. Which it shouldn't.
Curving the bullet it simple, press RB to lock onto a enemy and draw a line between you and your enemy. Move the Left or Right Analog to adjust the trajectory of the bullet and release to fire. Simple to do, hard to master.
When I say that, I of course mean that curving the bullet isn't as simple as one may imagine. For starters, curved bullets always seem to hit the torso. Which doesn't nessessarily mean your going to kill your foe in one hit, even on the easiest (pussy) difficulty. It took 2 curved bullets to finish off a standard bad-guy. What this means is that line of trajectory is more for just finding your way around your enemies cover. You've gotta study their movements, and align that line so that the bullet will find it's way to the head first before hitting the torso. Heck, if your really good. Try to align that line between multiple enemies for a snazzy double kill.
As cool as curving the bullets is, I've found myself having difficulties with it. No doubt due to inexperience but when left between two options. I used more traditional methods of killing my enemies. I could attempt to curve a bullet and have a 50/50 chance of killing em'. Or I could instead blow up a nearby fire extinguisher and blow up a door. Sucking the enemies out of the plane with a 100% chance of killing em. My mind always goes for the most successful option and I found myself racing though the level blowing up doors.
However, It's easy to use and quick to access functionality definately made me want to use it and master it. So in time, you'll see players curving bullets around entire levels to hit what may feel like impossible to reach goals, or kills.
Guns, Guns, and No Guns?
Amazingly enough, at least in the demo. I am shocked with the lackage of weapon choices. You've got, two pistols, and your trusty knife. While I can't speak for the actual game itself. This lackage of weapon choices I find to be rather disturbing. Even more so, when your average badguy is gunning you down with a SMG, or a Shotgun and you're shooting your pistols in a vain effort to sway them away. Can't you pick up enemies weapons and use them to turn the tide? Too bad, doesn't look like it's gonna happen in this game.
Final Impressions
This may be a turn-around in what I thought was a dead market. A actually good game based off a movie. Who would have thought of it, really. I had alot of fun thinking up creative ways to finish my enemies, but in the end. I resorted to traditional methods to get the job done. That doesn't mean it's gonna stop me however. Many games have multiple ways to reach the goal, and Wanted: Weapons of Fate brings that to the table. With Curving Bullets and its Innovative Cover system, you'll definately want to give this demo a go. The full game however? We'll just have to wait and see.
