Actually I'd say Halo 1 is the best FPS to me, but my favorite is Goldeneye 007.

Hey, what`s up with "old is bad" attitude? Go play yer half bad action games on 360 which is developed in two months. I`d prefer anything that is put efford in making either it`s old or new. Same shait goes with movies. I don`t eat cakes. I don`t like military shooter`s made for western auidence who thinks war is cool until they`re brains are like a vegetable after participating in a real war. Phew.

It's not an "old is bad" attitude.

It's simply a matter of taking off the nostalgia goggles and saying "What does this game offer me today that other games don't offer and then some?"  The answer really isn't that much besides remote/proximity mine hilarity.

I hate these "Let's take our childhood favorite games and pit them against new ones" threads because I'd like to keep my nostalgia goggles on and remember them fondly.  Digging some of these games up and dragging them through the mud doesn't make me the least bit happy.

Ok, you just continue to play diablo 2, and stay out of threads like these.

I'm sure you're trying to be witty here by putting D2 next to Goldeneye but while there has been a smorgasbord of FPS titles to surpass Goldeneye, the hack'n'slash genre hasn't been so fortunate (TQ = Ew).  There is hope for D3 of course.

Goldeneye is hand down the best FPS period and one of the best game of all time. Perfect Dark was pretty good too but was overshadow by GoldenEye

Did you even play Cod4 Single player? They put soooooo much work into it, making everything feel very real. Goldeneye is sweet, but no bashing of how awesome CoD4 is, is required.

hl waz good until it turned too sci fi. thats when i turned away from it.

everyone must use commonsense and understand every one has different taste.

Goldeneye just seems the best until you go back and play it again. ITS F***ING terrible now adays. but the nostalgia even got me until i deceded to try and play it again back in january and i can firmly tell u that Halo, KZ2, and Any other great FPS out there is better than Goldeneye

Yeah, take even a low tier shooter like FEAR 2 or Resistance back ten years and people would be saying the same things about them now.

Nostalgia annoys me to no end.

- some of the greatest multiplayer level design ever
- a single player campaign actually worth my time
- the variable heights of Jaws and Oddjob for hilarious handicaps
- a comforting lack of aliens and Nazis

 exactly!!! plus single player level design is also amazing with the way the objectives are set up it doesnt feel like im just going from one end of the level to the end of the level even if in a few levels thats what it actually is the objectives are set up so great it doesnt feel like thats what im doing.
