You do realize that these games belong to the same gen as Half-life, UT, Deus ex, System Shock2, the Thief series?
They werent even the best FPSes available at that time, just the best available on consoles.
This is, of course , my opinion.
(heck, even Serious Sam:the first encounter is a better game imo)

According to who? PD is higher, and a lot of other games are tied with Goldeneye on metacritic. On gamerankings The Orange Box, Halo, Half-life 2, and Bioshock are all higher.
Anyways, I agree with BringBackChrono, neither were the best at the time (held back significantly by the platform they were on), and they definitely aren't the best now.

I would have completely agreed with that until Half Life series came into fruition. After Half Life 2, nothing has even come close to being as amazing. Goldneye and Perfect Dark follow closely behind with Bioshock and Metroid Prime probably being the only other contenders. Would probably include the Halo series as well.

But since Half Life 2, nothing has topped it, imo of course but come on haha.

If you are talking about the press score, HL and HL2 both also have a 9.6.

 Ok, so hl have the same score as Goldeneye, but I`ve played it and it`s so so so boooring.

If you are looking for pure adrenaline I'd say Killzone 2 online Multiplayer. It is more intense than any other FPS i have played!
