Wow, sad to see him leave, he seemed like 1 of the more level headed people out there in game journalism

He wants to get into game devolpment now, which actually might help out a few companies out there

Maybe he can get a job with Capcom and ensure that the next Resident Evil is done to his satisfaction.

Really happy he's going into development then. Too bad he left game journalism, I much enjoyed him, actually.

I just saw this!

It's really too bad that he's leaving game journalism. I know he wasn't very popular in some circles due to his strong opinions on RE5, but I've always thought he was one of the most interesting, critically-aware game journalists in the industry.

His critiques of video games always seemed to come from more of an arts background than a design/technical background -- and both are needed in order to create worthwhile journalism for video games.

While I'm sad to see him leave his post at Newsweek, I can also see him doing a lot of great things by working with developers. Maybe in a more creative role, he will help make more artistically relevant, interesting video games.

That is a shame. N'Gai struck me as the one true game journalist and not just another fanboy who got the chance to write about games. To many 'game journalists' can't see beyond their own personal biases which are becoming more and more irrelavent as the industry expands to include all walks of people.

N'Gai was one of the few journalists that I thought looked at games for what they really are supposed to be: Fun!

He wasn't about graphics and underlying technologies. At the end of the day, he looked at games as "How much fun will I have playing this and how long will that last?". He understands what gaming is all about as a gamer. It's good he's going to put his views towards development. I look forward to seeing the results of his input in future projects.

Good Luck Mr. Croal! :)

N'gai Croal says:
"As a journalist you sort of get a broad perspective across multiple genres," he said. "I've covered things here ranging from pop music to movies and other things. To be able to bring a bit of a broader perspective, I think that might be useful at a time like this for certain developers who want to expand their audience."

I'm not sure what he thinks his "broad perspective" can bring for anybody, if he doesn't get his hands dirty doing any job related to game development there's little he can offer just by having "educated opinions". It would do him some good to take Marketing studies, since Croal says that he "can help" developers aiming their games at the right audience it seems that's the path he should follow. He probably wouldn't land on a position as creative as he would think at first, but it would certainly be close to it, and who knows he could end up being a guy like Ryan Payton (from MGS4).

The guy was way to opinionated for a journalist and his views often clash with mine... more than once i wanted to rip his eyeballs out of his head

Did all the black zombies make him mad or something?
