i been playing M rated games before i can even play E10+ rated games... no one wants to play jrpgs with pink flowers everywhere or pokemon till they are 17

Are you implying that the 3 types of games are M rated games, pink flower JRPGs, and Pokemanz, and that one is for mature people and the other two are for young children who don't know any better?

Are you implying that all Mortal Kombat games are better than all Street Fighter games because they have fatalities?

Are you implying that it's 1992 all over again?

 i dont get it

That argument always reminds me of 1992, that's all buddy.  I guess it brings out the 1992 fanboy in me.  You wouldn't be caught playing Ms Pac-Man anywhere near Mortal Kombat.

When I think of M rated games, I think of the kids in that MK ad.  That's their target market, even though the games are rated M these days.  And yeah, that's how I dressed in 1992 when I played Mortal Kombat.

Ahaha that MK picture is a perfect example, though now they would be shunned for shamelessly marketing to kids, but I believe that is still their targeted market.

It has nothing to do with kids liking blood gore and guts..it has to do with kids wanting to feel grown up and "cool"

well yes, thats the half of it. they also want to be like tough men...

which is why you dont see a lot of kids reading romance or comedy, they go straight to action and stuff like that.

Um... I loved reading (and watching) comedy and romance when I was younger.

Also, that remark is a tad sexist.  I don't think girl gamers "want to be like tough men."

I think he was meaning the stereotype that most kid gamers are little boys, though same could be said that most of the "core" demographic of gamers 12 to 26 year old males also ACT like little boys.

its like this , Games such as GTA IV appeal to kids because they want to drive a car around towns ,have fun doing stuff that they cant do in real life and to get out of their "Do what your mom tells you to" world

while the more mature people want games that has a meaning behind it and/or games that reminds them of the past and/or a game that get them out of what they hate about real life (Blood / Violence / Gangs ...ect )

so yea both sides want to have what they lost.

This has always been it.  Even back on the NES and Atari.  The incorrect assumption MS and Sony made was that, since gamers from those days have 'grown up' (are between 18-25 now), that the largest amount of game purchasers were in that age group.  Instead, as they've seen, the 'Mature' audiance is fickle, and will sooner buy a copy of Halo 3 as it will Metroid Prime 3 or GTAIV as it will Final Fantasy IV DS.

All the while bashing 'casual' games.

And after all the old fellows buy their GTA's and Halo's the kids start wanting them, because they're mature and older people like them :P

Unless this article was written in 1998, I don't think that's new research.

Haha, yeah it's pretty common knowledge, but having some more data doesn't hurt.  My main gripe is activists and lawmakers putting more and more restrictions on games because kids want these games when responsibility lies in the parent not the government to handle media, I mean who are they to say what can and cannot be sold, if anything get's an AO the only way it could release is via PC and even then no retailer will sell it so it has to be online...
