First, this is not about lifetime sales, of course Wii Sports Resort (WSR) will easily pass the 17M+ mark while Halo 3 should stall at 11M.

Its about launch sales!!!!


- Worwide Halo 3 got an impressive 3.8 million first week!

- It surpassed the cinema industry in that week (at least microsoft shouted that loud, don't know if it is just parcially true, I don't trust that much in microsoft)


So can Wii Sports - an established franchise now, more than Halo maybe(?) - beat the epic launch week of Halo 3?


Me says no. It is famous, but its not a long-waited AAA, so it won't have godly first impact sales but it will have goddly legs, just like Wii Play, Mario Kart and Wii Fit.

Likely it will do so pretty quickly too, not sure if it will break Mario Karts speed record but it sure has a decent shot at it.

Nope it won't, because hype is what makes things sell on the first week, Nintendo don't usually start advertising until after launch, and the internet will only create mild hype for this because it is not a shooter or action game.

Still, I think if it is priced like a normal game it should break 1 million for combined WW launch, possibly 2 million.

I'd say no. Different crowd. It will have a strong launch but like other Wii titles it'll all be in the incredible legs it'll have.

Considering there are almost twice as many Wii owners as there are 360 owners- the chances are high that it'll sell over 4m in the first week.

Not only will it not beat Halo 3 1st week sales, Nintendo won't even ship 3 million copies for 1st week. Remember, Nintendo still cannot even make Mario Kart discs fast enough to keep up with demand.

Oh, yes though. WSR is far more important to gaming then H3 and will sell more, overall.

Highly unlikely (IMO), however, with the large install base of the Wii anything is possible.

no no no, it won't beat halo. This is a very casual game, and casual gamers don't come out in droves the first week something comes out. If they are in the store and it's there, they might pick it up. I would actually peg week 1 sells in the 700,000 range, I doubt it will hit a million on week one. Thats not to say it will stop there, but a game like this will be a slow build up over time, not a dramatic first day rush.

No, it involves a peripheral, so even if demand is that high Nintendo won't take the risk of overproducing. It'll sell out though.
