^^Aww...poor Yoshi looks so sad in that picture.
OT: What if the next Mario...was a FPS? The answer to both questions: not likely!

Those never happened.
If its horrible, sales will be lower than other games and the series reputation will be tarnished, but not ruined. If its bad, I think the series rep will be fine but the game will be shunned. Also I highly doubt that it could be any worse than mediocre- no Zelda game has been worse than very good.
If I saw trailers and gameplay videos demonstrating a different style of gameplay and the idea that the game could be bad ever crossed my mind, I'd think back to when I thought Metroid Prime was going to suck and how very VERY wrong I was.

Even "IF" the next one is "horrible" it will still be better then 98% of all games.
If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing

I would hold a "The new Zelda game sucks so bad that were going to toss our copies in a bonfire party". Since I no longer drink, I would just watch everyone get beligerantly drunk and rip the game a new one. This wont happen though. The worst Zelda game would be very good.

If Miyamoto directs it, which i hope he does, Mario Galaxy would be your argument for quality. Short answer, your insane, long answer, Miyamoto's standards ensure every game he produces is phenomenal.
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
