Correct.  I think it only had around 90% of the console market in the US for a few years and that was when computer gaming was proportionally bigger.  I don't think it reached that number anywhere else except Japan.  NES wasn't even that big a deal in 90% of the world (South America, the Central American part of North America, Africa, Asia (except Japan), and Europe).

No. True monopoly doesn't exist in anything consumer related. Nintendo would be fined and sanctioned by anti-monopolist laws in almost every country (look at Microsoft and tell me that Apple/Firefox are weak competitors) and there will always be other companies that will want a slice of their cash-pie.

If this would happen, it would be great. :)

However before that I think Sony & MS will try to steal casual gamers from Nintendo.

Personally, I'd love to have a single-console future, whoever made it. That would move the competition to software, where it should be.

That's why I'm glad that this latest movie format war was over so quickly--we can now debate over the quality of the movie rather than the quality of the movie player.

But if it happens one day, that means video gaming industry doesn't profitable anymore. the death of the industry. cos there's no company want to entre the market.

Nintendo was making tons of money back then, with GC/GBA/DS sales.  All 3 systems were sold for a profit at the same time.

Nintendo DID get taken to court a few times over monopolistic business practices in the late 80's and early 90's.

Other companies wanted a slice of the cash pie, but Nintendo made 3rd parties sign contracts where they couldn't make multiplats, and if they did, it had to be Nintendo-exclusive for a year or more.  3rd parties actually signed these contracts, because they had no choice.  That's a monopoly.

i hope no.... monopoly is not good for consumers.

^ but still, having a monopoly is never good. I want nintendo to be number #1 and have the SNES and NES era all over again, but i don't want Nintendo to have a 100% monopoly. But i have to say, Nintendo has the best soft anywayz

I don't think that will ever happen... There was always competition... Even if it was small at times.

This will not happen.
But both Sony & Microsoft will sooner or later be replaced by other console manufacturers.
So there will always be competition for Nintendo.
