MOST INFLUENTIAL GAMES is the wrong title, most successful games I can agree with (for teh most part).

To me most influential games are those that actually "influenced" design choices on next gen games. Pacman, super mario bros, zelda, FFVII and metal gear series have been more influential than any other.

ICO was an amazing game but what has it influenced? Are there any ICO like games that I am missing? Games that make you care for your in-game characters without dialogue?

You can't use the word 'influential' and 'game' in the same sentence without mentioning Doom; thus, this list fails miserably. How could anyone ignore the game that popularized (not created, mind you) the FPS genre?

This list is worse than IGN AU's Best Games of 2008 list (with MGS4 in 9th and Mirror's Edge in 5th...)

Personally, I think Pac-Man was one of the most important games of all time, but I don't think it was influential at all. What games have been inspired by Pac-Man? What games have been inspired by Pac-Man recently?

I think Pac-Man was way more important for video games than Super Mario Kart, but I think Super Mario Kart was way more influential for game design.

I find Pac-man to be influental moreso by bieng iconic rather than having "direct influence". Virtually every arcade nationwide has the Puck man displayed somewhere (especially since Namco does virtually all the contracting for maintenance on machines). Many Many arcades sucha sa Time Out actually have him in the title of their establishment.

I also think that its major success at a pivotal time in the game industry set a presedince(sp?) for companies to "make the next pac-man".

-edit- Oh yeah, and the fact that it's still a recongnizable title after decades says something about it as well. (True there are the newer titles, but meh.  people still remember the original moreso.)

Yeah that's exactly why I feel Pac-Man is the more important game.

But more people try to copy Mario Kart than copy Pac-Man.

I have no idea why. I think Pac-Man is great and there should be tons of amazing clones. It should be a genre by now.

What's even Pac-Man-esque? Miyamoto's Devil World game was. And kinda Dig Dug, but it gave you a weapon.
