Forums - Sony - Sony president stepping down, CEO Stringer remains

Wow - score 1-0 for Western business practices...I wonder how it will turn out.
Hopefully well lol

@BengaBenga

I would think to try and make them look better

I would have prefered it if software were seperate from the hardware division, but that could get ugly too

I don't understand why Sony don't drop the Walkman and try something new.. I mean it is an established brand but it's time passed quite a while ago..

 I think the above statement could be used for the "Playstation" brand too. I think they need to get nack to what they do best and the is cutting edge hardware and I think it is time to drop the PS3 or team up with MS and make the next PS720.

Sony now don't make any leading products, about 5 years ago if you wanted the best technology you would look at a Sony product and know it was among the best. Now there are others that are loads better. They have really lost there way over the last 5 years, some times it is better to cut and run than flog a dead horse.

Wow, this is truly huge news. Playstation division combined with Vaio?

I guess its not that different from MS's 360 division - but it means that Sony's "sole" focus on the Playstation division is now gone. Which means a complete "software-centric" focus may be gone.

That's the thing to me: software and hardware are completely different beasts. There is minimal software needed for the Vaio or Walkman - but a lot needed for PSP/PS3.

Wonder if we'll see more converged products - music players that can play games (i.e. iPod), or special laptops that also double as convenient game players.

What are you talking about? The PS3 is the most cutting edge technology. They need to step up their marketing, not their technology. You're just pulling shit out of your own ass for no reason.

I'm guessing from what other analysts are saying that this is a huge gamble by Sony? Going into "emergency mode" as some put it. Or "intensive care" as others have put it.

Hope it pays off for them but wanting profits and getting profits are two different things, placing three groups who have lost a feck load each maybe not the right solution.

Dude, you were literally 2 seconds faster.

But you missed the most important part in the title: SCE will be combined with Vaio and Walkman:

Sony said it will combine its VAIO personal-computer, Walkman and PlayStation businesses in the Networked Products & Services Group to focus on creating gadgets that can work with each other and connect to the Internet. Kazuo Hirai, who’s in charge of the game business, will head the new division.

This I find to be very interesting news. Although it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, how come all I can foresee from this new's is they may abandon the current playstation 3 in favor of a redesigned model? Something that can commicate and work together with Vaio Notebooks, and Sony Walkmans?

This news leaves a bad taste in my mouth, I hope they don't redesign the PS3.

Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?

@bolded:

no need for a PS3 redesign, the FW updates could probably cover it. if anything it would be the walkmans that need the redesign, not the PS3

It's much more likely it will affect the PS4. And Walkman and PSP are a logical combination.

so basically sony wants to turn PSN to itunes that all of their products have access to it,, so they can buy movies/games/music(soon to be launched in PSN)

It's a very bold move and it ll make the company much more unified if executed right.

imagine bravia tv with hard drive with access to movie store on PSn so owners can buy/rent movies without a need for another box.
