Personally, I think the only point is to toy with your expectations. Maybe we're meant to feel like there is some "greater secret" to be discovered, or that the game is lying to us. But really it's totally straightforward and easy.
It's like the complete opposite of that weird Super Mario Bros parody where you play as a little white cat and EVERYTHING that would work in SMB, kills you instead. It's a sequence-breaker. You Have To Burn The Rope is a sequence-breaker x2!
