Forums - Gaming - Uncharted and Gears of War comparison

I agree, SOME of those pictures look way off for Gears 2. Exspecially some of the close up shots of characters. That being said, I don't exactly pay attention and shove my head up to the tv to get that close a view. Either way, I've played both games on the same tv and I would give it to Uncharted hands down, nothing else has come close if you want my personal opinion. I thought Uncharted looked better then MGS4 and not only am I a MGS4 fanboy but MGS4 beat out Gears 2 in most graphics awards this past year. That being said, I don't like the explosions in Uncharted and it was too short. Both of these games have wowed me and are my favorite two new IPS for this generation thus far. They are both in my top 5 games this gen and for good reason. For having such simular gameplay though, they play totally different. Uncharted seems slower paced for sure.

Oh, by the way. While I believe Uncharted looks far better graphically it also has more technical problems. If your playing it, you can expect screen tearing. That's one thing that rarely gets mentioned in these comparisons.

I've never experienced screen tearing in Uncharted and I've finished it seven or eight times now. Pop-in was the only problem I ever had with Uncharted whereas Gears 2 had frame-rate issues, low-res textures and graphical oddities such as invisible floors (soldiers and objects hovering above craters as if the ground was flat). I found Gears 2 to have unpolished graphics from a technical perspective while Uncharted was nearly flawless.

 I've beaten Uncharted 8 times myself and I've had screen tearing and I've heard others complain of screen tearing in the game as well. In fact, I've suffered screen tearing on every one of my playthroughs although it doesn't last long and its usually once to twice a playthrough max. The only pop in I recall is on the jet ski in which case I've suffered pop in every time. But that's the only time I remember pop in. I have had more occurances of pop in during Gears 2 though, especially on multiplayer both online and off with bots. I'm bad at spotting Frame-rate drops unless it's severe and I don't recall a problem with either except for when Gears 2 loads. I think both games are magnificent and look increadible though, exspecially Uncharted. It reminds me of that argument of how much harder trees and plant life are to design graphically and makes Uncharted even more impressive. Uncharted 2 already is looking to blow everything else away, including Killzone 2. I can't wait.

Odd, I never noticed pop-in durring the jet ski section. I only spotted pop-in on Sully's shirt at the beginning of chapter 2 (I think) and on the wrecked U-Boat. Agreed about Uncharted 2, I can't wait.

 Really? That's odd. I never had that problem. Is it normal for a game's technical problems to be that different from disc to disc? I'm sure we'll both agree that the problems are minor and not for a second take away from the enjoyment of the game though. It's a masterpiece with the only minor problem it having is being too short. Still, I got my money's worth, I've played through it even more times then I've played through MGS4 (6 times) and I'm a HUGE MGS fan.

@Solid_Raiden

Perhaps it's our PS3's, I've got the 60 gig model BTW.

PS. Uncharted and MGS4, funny how we finished both the same number of times.

for people saying that those pictures is not from gears 2 i challenge anybody to zoom the gears 2 pictures and see if it looks different from those scrrenshots

the textures of uncharted looks better than gears 2,how this is possible?

naught dog is awesome

Use power for the right things. At least for the things that you believe in.

Wow, Uncharted does look fantastic.

Oh, whatever!! I don't know what the agenda is of the person who made this comparison, but something is definitely not right. Gears does not look that bad. And Uncharted has more than it's fair share of 2D shrubs, vines, and such. Also, the explosions in Uncharted are horrible! There isn't really a need for this comparison to exist, but even if it were, it's painting a biased picture.
