Forums - Gaming - Marvelous wants to step up from Wii to 'more hardcore platforms'

I'm actually pretty excited about Little King's Story... that is one quirky title...

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

At least that interviewer didn't say that No More Heroes would have been more successful on 360. He just said successful. It was a long-running argument that the Wii haters pitched around joystiq back when NMH came out, that if only they hadn't crippled themselves by developing for the Wii, it could have been such a great success, forgetting the fact that it is a Suda game.

Equally the way the interviewer talks about it like moving up from the Wii is graduating from the bush league to head for the majors, when the two groups are more paralell than that.

It's actually EXACTLY like graduating to the major leagues, but right before the big game you lost your bat and replaced it with a gamepad with some joysticks, triggers, and buttons, and now everybody in the packed stadium is laughing at you, and you're on the Jumbotron.

Viva Pinata is the best example so far, I think. It's a new IP turned into a franchise, and although I'm sure MS threw some weight behind it, I don't recall any big ad campaigns. I don't really know the game, but I've never heard it compared to another game so as to suggest it was derivative.

What? I sure as hell do. I remember seeing Burger King Commericals afvertising Viva Pinata toys, my Apple Jacks had Hudson Horstachio on it, and Microsoft got 4Kids to make a lousy Cartoon about Viva Pinata. Not to mention it was a game made a by a then reputable developer that got great reviews.

Microsoft threw plenty of money behind promoting it, even if not very wisely. (4Kids, great call.)

Seriously I like Viva Pinata, but I hardly consider it a rousing success all things considered. Look at the sales of the sequel. It was budget priced at $40 and it still hasn't crossed 400k. =/

@ BrainBox - The cartoon came first. It wasn't so much a massive marketing move behind a game as it was a game based on a general "phenomena" of stuff like a Cartoon, toys, games. Sort of a Hello Kitty thing.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

The cartoon was released first, but it was based on the game. Ironic it not only beat the game to market but made it look like the game was something to market the show instead of the other away around. A lot of people who've played Viva Pinata will tell you that Leafos tells you a ton of "secrets" that are out right lies. Most of them pertaining on how to get certain Pinatas. I think Microsoft actually made rare change a lot of elements of the game to match the show, like getting Zumbugs from feeding Daisys and Blackberries to Horstachios

So much for that theory. Guess I wasn't paying attention.

Me either. I don't remeber seeing much advertising for it outside of the crappy TV show.

I didn't say it was good advertising. Just that it was there. =P

The show actually scared me off Viva Pinata untill I finally tried the demo on a friend's 360 and realized the game wasn't anything like the show.

Viva Pinata had tons of advertising.

At 5 minutes in Mario Lopez starts dancing.

Oh well, maybe they can make a good game on ps360. Maybe.
