Sharky54 said: did nintendo die with their back to back "failure" consoles? Nope. So why do people think sony will lose its playstation brand because of one system not selling amazingly well? Isn't it already close to selling more units then the gamecube and xbox last gen? No matter what you say, the numbers are closer this gen then last. the leader isn't 80 million ahead. |
While I don't think that the PS3 would be the last Playstation console, you have to consider that Nintendo was still an amazingly profitable company and had amazingly popular handheld systems throughout their declines with the SNES, N64 and Gamecube generations; and it also took 3 generations for Nintendo to fall from their ultra-dominant position to the third place console at (roughly) 1/3 of their peak hardware sales, and Sony will have accomplished this in one generation.
In other words, Sony is not in the same position as Nintendo was and poor decisions leading into the next generation could easily kill off Sony's gaming division.
