^zenfoldorVGI. omg lol. that was kinda harsh.

Final Fantasy XII sucked hard

Final Fantasy X-2 sucked

Final Fantasy X was great

Final Fantasy IX was very good

Final Fantasy VIII was boring

Final Fantasy VII was great

That is just my opinion though, Tales of series FTW.

Translation of OP : I don't like the latest FF, therefore noone else should like them either and SE should make something else to catter to my own personal tastes...

Sorry, some of us actually enjoyed the latest FF....

See, it's not so much that, though I would be happy if everyone did everything to accommodate my taste (though that would be awesome), it's mainly that SE is full of themselves and I want them to be taken down a peg.  They know people will buy FFXIII no matter what they put in the box and they are fine with that.

I just want the game to bomb to scare them into actually trying again, make people buy things other than FF games so SE isn't cornering the JRPG market anymore, and hopefully have SE start making things that are actually special again.

Look at something like FFXII.  I accept that people like it even though I hate it but that divide is pretty evident that something is the matter.  If you look at something like FFVI, almost everyone loves that game.  There are of course people that don't like it, but you don't have this giant split like you have with something like FFXII.

Just think, if FFXIII bombed and SE had to try again and they made something on the caliber of FFVI.  How much would you love a game that had as good as a story of FFIV, as good as characters as FFVI, and the looks of FFXIII?  Until they are forced to try again, they are going to continue to force generic characters and stories on us and concentrate on spinoffs because they know people will buy it.

That said, you are a spiteful bastard, and thus, should also be taken down a peg, however I won't be the one to do it. Your rant was fine, but I don't buy it.

I would be angry if it wasn't true.  :-p

@twesterm

How do you know they would make a game caliber of FF VI if FF XIII bombed? They could try something else for all we know :3

Like a remake of Final Fantasy VII X3

Fine, you are entitled to your opinion, but have you not noticed that SE have released TLR, IU and SO4 recently, and they have all been met with average reviews (generally), and average sales (not helped by 360 exclusivity) so they are trying to do other things but failing

The big question is, will you see XIII as very good, I loved X, X-2 and XII (the only FF games that I have played), so I expect XIII to be good, and I don't mind being caught up in the hype, as I will still be hyped when I play it, and so still enjoy it even if it is average. Anyway, if they have changed the series in XIII for the better, surely you would want it to succeed? For all you know they have created another VI in XIII, so I don't think you should really want it to flop before we know how good it is

Hey Kasz, what elements did you enjoy in the Final Fantasy games you liked?

<snip>

Thank you for the really thoughtful and detailed response.

I agree with most everything you mentioned minus FF5 and FFT.  I don't like systems that make all the characters the same essentially.  That was something I didn't really like about FF7 and FF8--characters just didn't feel unique.  For FFT, I enjoyed the battle system (I love tactics-style games too), but I hated the story.  It utterly failed to interest me or give me an attachment to any character.  By comparison, I can play a Disgaea game with a very simple story but terrific writing and get attached to the characters within an hour.

And this is another reason I hate Final Fantasy: it makes other RPG's not sell.  There are two parts to my master FFXIII bombing plan:

  1. Make FFXIII bomb to force SE to make good FF games again
  2. Make people realize there are other RPG's other than Final Fantasy.

Those games you listed weren't bad at all but they didn't sell well because they didn't have the Final Fantasy name attached to them.  I'm sure if they made it something like Final Fantasy VII: Infinite Undiscovery (that's the US Lost Oddyssey right?) and threw in a random Sephiroth cameo or even a name drop then I'm sure it would have sold millions.

FFX - the last great FF. everything else after that is sh*t (besides C.C.)

Is disgaea you favorite game?
