While the game isn't littered with NPCs, there's a lot of interaction with fellow bounty hunters and objectives given from outside sources. It seems like this and the multi-planet settings were both added to make the game feel more like an action-adventure than an adventure-action title, which is a shame since it flies in the face of what made Metroid one of the best franchises in gaming.

An interesting review. They at least seem to justify their score, so I'm happier with this review than with Gamespot's. I guess I'm becomming somewhat confused though by the conflicting reports about the amount of exploration vs. combat. Gametrailers and IGN both claimed there was a good balance, leaving plenty of exploration and just streamlining the way it's done. 1UP sort of skipped over the subject. Gamespot says it was more shooter-like, but then turns around and says it's just like the first two lol. Game Pro seems to be very specific in that they consider it to be too heavy on the combat. Guess that's something that every person will have to judge for themselves.

Could it be the fact that not all reviewers played the game all the way? Perhaps a lack of interest in Metroid Prime 3 led reviewers to base the score of the game on early parts of the game, while the entire experience is balanced out.

I agree gamepro does seem to explain their position better, but I still don't get the scoring system. I assume it's on a 5 point scale (a system I don't agree with anyways), but I don't see where they put their actual score, is the on I am supposed to be looking at the fun factor score?

I think it's a possibility.

I think Donwii makes an excellent point. Perhaps the reviewers didn't finish the game, I notice that niether Gamespot or gamepro mentioned the pointless fetch quest at the end of the game that Gametrailers and IGN critizied (had they it certaily would have justified their score better than the "Controls are too good" and "Not much like the other MP games".

I suppose that's possible.  The first part of the game has been said many times to be heavier on combat.  This is because the first hour of the game is more of a tutorial.  However, I really think it's more simply a difference of opinion.  Some people are disappointed with the way you backtrack now.  The system was streamlined so that you can now fly to different points on the planets, to shorten the amount of travel.  They didn't eliminate backtracking.  They just made it less travel time.  I think some people simply miss the actual trip time, but that was never really the important part to me.  The game itself is even larger than it's predecessors.  I, personally, prefer to have more new environments and less walking through old ones.

Most of it seems they don't like the changes to the Metroid Prime formula, but there's a few bits I don't understand at all.

"While the aiming takes awhile to get used to, once you find your desired level of sensitivity, you'll find that it almost matches the buttery-smooth movement of the GameCube games. Note that I said almost, as it doesn't quite live up to the past installments' standard."

Again, what made Metroid Prime 1 and 2's aiming system so great? I beat both games twice, I found it simple and
uninvovling when it came to shooting stuff most of the time, and nothing about that ever made me feel like it was
buttery-smooth. O_o

"It's far easier to get lost in Corruption than in past titles and while the settings and enemies are far more diverse, it comes at the expense of that amazing feeling you'd get in previous games knowing you'd explored every nook and cranny of an entire planet."

Don't understand this part at all. They're upset that game has multiple planets, because they liked the the satisfaction of exploring an entire "single" planet? It really seems like a werid and specfic issue, I typically get an amazing feeling of exploring every nook and cranny in the "entire game". Doesn't really matter to me how they tally up the different sections to me, so long as I can revisit them.

Gamespot's review was a lot more helpful in my opinion.

Interestring. I disagree with that though. Metroid was very closed off in a way. Appeling to gamers who were used to that way of playing. Metroid Prime 2 proves this. Corruption basically tried to balance oput the adventure with the action, and from the looks of it, did a great job.

Oh yeah, thus far the big three hyped games that have come out, according to reviewers

Bioshock>Metroid Prime 3>>Heavenly Sword

It's not over yet, but I doubt metroid is going to score the 10s necessary to overcome bioshock. I am interested to see where Halo 3 is going to fit in there though. I mean it is the second coming of videogame jesus, from what I hear on the street.

ROFL video game jesus LOL

well it is looking very good, and on one can predict how good it will do tell we know how the story goes

If it has a very good 1 player we could look at a very solid scoring game, very high actually, and from the looks of it we might just have that

The only thing i see bringing down the score is just like metroid, its a sequal and not completely new ~-~

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Well I think both Gamespot and Gamepro seem a little confused. However, Gamepro was much more consistent, even if their complaints seem a little odd. I guess I found both reviews a little helpful, simply because they show the exact worst way you can view the changes in Prime 3.

hang on a second here...

From the GamePro review:

"When a substance called Phozon starts infecting neighboring planets, the hunters head off to investigate."

Phozon? PHOZON? who are these people?
