Hey Sharky, I like some of the melodic speed metal stuff, but I absolutely loath the death growl stuff. What are some bands that fit my liking?

Hmm I have to remember this band. Its a great power speed metal band. both of you would like them. Umm Serenity. First song I suggest you listen to by them is 'Rust of Coming Ages"

Helloween is a great older Powermetal band. Hmm anbother old school melo Speed band is . . .

Artillery. http://mightymusic.dk/audio/ARTILLERY_Khomaniac.mp3 Great song. Theyt used to tour with metallica.

Keep the questions rolling in :D

Cool, thanks.  I love listening to new stuff(new to me).  Hopefully Zune Marketplace has them.

Iced Earth!  They're a mix of Iron Maiden-esque power metal and thrash, and their older stuff has some death metal leanings (on albums like Burnt Offerings). And Matt Barlow is the greatest singer ever!

Check out:

Burnt Offerings
The Dark Saga
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Horror Show

The last two are their two best albums.

Also check out the Glorious Burden, though it has Tim Owens doing the vocals instead of Barlow.  He's also one of my favorites.

OT:

My favorite genres are power metal, progressive metal, symphonic metal, melodeath, viking/folk metal, and some thrash.

My favorite bands:

Iced Earth - older stuff is power/thrash, newer stuff is more prog.
Nightwish - They started as prog metal, but are now more symphonic.
Amon Amarth - melodeath with a strong mix of viking.
Kamelot - prog rock/metal that is really just awesome prog!
Soilwork - melodeath.
Dark Tranquillity - melodeath.
In Flames - melodeath, but their newer stuff is more nu-metal (as in, not really metal). The older stuff is amazing, but the newer stuff kind've sucks.
Metallica - Their 80s stuff is rather technical thrash, and it's amazing.
Iron Maiden - Technically NWOBHM, but they basically pioneered the power metal genre.
Ozzy - It's ozzy!  Everyone shuould know Ozzy!
Ensiferum - viking metal,
Dark Moor - power metal.
Children of Bodom - melodeath. their older stuff is more technical and awesome-er.
Blind Guardian - Power/prog metal.
Demons & Wixards - An amazing power metal collaboration between Jon Schaffer, the guitarist and principle songwriter for Iced Earth, and Hanzi Kursch, the singer and principle songwriter for Blind Guardian.
Pantera - thrash/groove metal. They really only have two really good albums.
Dragonforce - power/speed metal. Every song is a mix of so many awesome riffs!
Rhapsody (now known as Rhapsody of Fire) - Symphonic metal.

To elaborate on my above post, my favorite singers are:

Matt Barlow - Current lead singer of Iced Earth.  Also did an album for Paramaze.
Bono - U2. The oddball here!
Tim Owens - Sang with Iced Earth for two albums, with Judas Priest for a few, and has his own band, Beyond Fear.
Bruce Dickinson - Iron Maiden!  Also did a few solo albums.
Tarja Turinen - Former singer of Nightwish.
Roy Khan - Singer of Kamelot.
Hanzi Kursch - Singer of Blind Guardian, who did two side albums under the name Demons & Wizards

Lets see:

The Showdown
This Fire's Embrace
Demon Hunter
War of Ages

Are all good picks for metal. AILD is great too.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

In this thread about metal... I hope so. Pantera rule, I saw dimebag darrel a few months before he died, if I knew then what I knew now I would have cherished that gig.

OT: I don't look like I love metal, I have short hair and wear regular clothes... but I absolutely fucking love metal, My fav genre is thrash metal, but I like most types. A few of my fav bands are...

Black sabbath (my fav)

Megadeth (2nd fav)

Slayer

Testament

Anthrax

Iced earth

Pantera

Led zep (of course)

Exodus

Dragonforce (I know... but I like them)

Children of bodom

Motorhead

SOAD

And many more, I know it's all mainstream but I've never been a fan of straying too far away.

Glad to see D-Force is strong here. Most metal people make it a point of hating them. Just like Yngwie Malmsteen.

And Sharky, Pantera rules! Pantera hate is unadmissable in a metal thread.

Quem disse que a boca é tua?

Qual é, Dadinho...?

Dadinho é o caralho! Meu nome agora é Zé Pequeno!

KAMELOT

is this considered as metal?

I love some of thier songs

Breaking bejamin , metal? I love them

I also like red , 3days grace , skillet , nickelback and default

Evanescence first album was awesome

Maximum the Hormone. I only like their Death Note songs though.

yeah that too

i greatly dislike pantera because everyone hails dime bag as an amazing guitarist. I don't think he was that amazing.

more people like metal here then I thought :D. I am am kind of sad to not see as much Metalcore love as I had hoped lol.

That's no reason to dislike pantera, that's just a reason to dislike those who hail him as the greatist guitarist ever. I agree that he is overrated as i'm not a big fan of his solos, but he had a real talent for coming up with very creative rhythms and should be given due credit in that regard.

As for my personal favorites: Megadeth, Anthrax, Metallica, Symphony X, Shadow Gallery, Iced Earth, Iron Maiden, Judas priest, Dream theatre, Def Leppard and Aryeon.
