Forums - Gaming - Is Final Fantasy XIII the last hope for a AAA JRPG on next-gen platforms?

If we count Muramasa: The Demon Blade as a JRPG I think it has a chance.

Tales of Ten probably has an outside chance of being a 90

Kizuna has some good talent working on it so it could conceivably happen.

If Final Fantasy Crystal Bearers plays as good as it looks it might get in the 90s

Dragon Quest VIII got a 89 in Metacritic so Dragon Quest X could.

I don't think Arc Rise Fantasia or Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga will though.

"Pier was a chef, a gifted and respected chef who made millions selling his dishes to the residents of New York City and Boston, he even had a famous jingle playing in those cities that everyone knew by heart. He also had a restaurant in Los Angeles, but not expecting LA to have such a massive population he only used his name on that restaurant and left it to his least capable and cheapest chefs. While his New York restaurant sold kobe beef for $100 and his Boston restaurant sold lobster for $50, his LA restaurant sold cheap hotdogs for $30. Initially these hot dogs sold fairly well because residents of los angeles were starving for good food and hoped that the famous name would denote a high quality, but most were disappointed with what they ate. Seeing the success of his cheap hot dogs in LA, Pier thought "why bother giving Los Angeles quality meats when I can oversell them on cheap hotdogs forever, and since I don't care about the product anyways, why bother advertising them? So Pier continued to only sell cheap hotdogs in LA and was surprised to see that they no longer sold. Pier's conclusion? Residents of Los Angeles don't like food."

"The so-called "hardcore" gamer is a marketing brainwashed, innovation shunting, self-righteous idiot who pays videogame makers far too much money than what is delivered."

If we are simply doing meta 90's, then I think other than FF XIII, V XIII, the VII remake, KH 3 for the PlayStation 3!!! most of the jRPGs do not really cater to western reviewers, which is the key thing if we are looking at meta

That's the point I tried to make.

If a JRPG had great reviews in Japan but not outside Japan, it wouldn't count as AAA game? In Person 4's instance, it has great reviews on meta but not in Japan and that makes it a AAA game?

If it's called JRPG, I think the reviews from Japan should have more weight.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

saicho and vaza...

i don't think you understand this AAA...famitsu is only ONE magazine company which get 4 reviewers....not from 4 different magazines....it's the same as GI...they do have 2nd opionion rating....then that should count as 2 rating right??...no...and also AAA rating usually refers to metacritic...

there are other magazines out there besides famitsu in japan...famitsu isn't going to change the metacritic rating with just one magazine...maybe a point...which would make DQ8 AAA...just maybe...

if you really want to get regional...there's no such thing as AAA in japan...since you keep instisting on "in japan"...therefore still not AAA...AAA is a metacritic thing...

What about FFXIII Versus or Persona 5 (I think a sequel is possible isn't it ?)

theres nothing mediocre about Lost Odyssey, thats AAA to me, so are ToV and VC

FFVIII Versus will be AAA also....

No. Star Ocean IV is The Last Hope

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

So No More Heroes is AAA? I always wondered what such a baseless and ignant sum of letters meant. (AAA)

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

so by your definition, GT4 is not a AAA game. Now I got it.
