Forums - Sales Discussion - PAL Charts week 8 (2009). Street Fighter IV debuts.

PS3 domination begins with SFIV. :Pjk

Around the Network

Though we don't have actual numbers, it seems 'Street Fighter IV' had a very, very strong debut.

Interestingly, 'Disney's Bolt' and 'Ben 10: Alien Force' both have a -way- better second week than the first one.

For an old game compilation, "Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection" has a good opening.

In the UK All-Format chart for this week (the one Chart-Track comments on) :

  • "Street Fighter IV" begins in place 1
  • "Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2" takes the 3rd place.
  • "Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection" begins in place 7
  • "Race Pro" begins in place 13
  • "50 cent: Blood Cent" begins in place 22
  • Not new releases, but "Ben 10: Alien Force" gains 9 places up to place 4, and "Disney's Bolt" gains 28 places from rank 40 to 12.

In the UK PS3 chart for this week :

  • "Street Fighter IV" begins in place 1
  • "Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection" begins in place 2
  • "50 cent: Blood Cent" begins in place 10
  • And like a repetition of "Eternal Sonata" performance from last week, "Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice" begins in place 30.

In the UK 360 chart for this week :

  • "Street Fighter IV" begins in place 1
  • "Race Pro" begins in place 2
  • "Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection" begins in place 3 (!)
  • "50 cent: Blood Cent" begins in place 9

No new releases has made it into the UK Wii, DS or PSP charts.

Chart-Track's news (on the All-Format chart):

Capcom’s ‘Street Fighter IV’ knocks ‘Wii Fit’ down to No2 in the All Formats Chart, becoming the fastest selling traditional beat ‘em up since the All Formats Chart began back in 1997.

53% of sales were on PS3 and 47% on Xbox 360, making it the biggest selling All Formats No1 of the year so far. February seems to be a good month for Capcom who have now had an All Formats No1 in February for the past 3 years (‘Devil May Cry 4’ in 2008 and ‘Lost Planet’ in 2007) and it can only get better for the cult Japanese publisher who will be celebrating 30 years in May, as they are due to release the highly anticipated ‘Resident Evil 5’ on March 13th.

Sales of ‘Wii Fit’ are up 20%, keeping it ahead of the next highest new entry, THQ’s ‘Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II’ on PC which debuts at No3.

Publisher D3P enters uncharted territory as ‘Ben 10: Alien Force’ becomes their first ever title to enter the All Formats Top 10, up from No13 to No4, ahead of ‘FIFA 09’, a non-mover at No5 and ‘Call of Duty: World of War’, down from No4 to No6.

A new entry for Sega at No7 with ‘Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection’ means that unusually all Top 7 games are now from different publishers. Nintendo however are still a force to be reckoned with in the All Formats Top 10 with ‘Mario Kart Wii’ down from No6 to No8 and ‘Wii Play’ down from No7 to No9.

After debuting at No2 last week, ‘F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin’ suffers in the face of strong competition from Xbox 360 and PS3 newcomers, down to No10.

Another one of those newcomers is ‘Race Pro’ from Atari on Xbox 360, new at No13, one place behind a strong 2nd week from ‘Disney’s Bolt’, up from No40 to No12.

Sales of Sega’s ‘House of the Dead: Overkill’ are up 30%, but with 4 new entries ahead of it in the All Formats Chart it remains at No15. ‘50 Cent: Blood on the Sand’ is the 5th and final All Formats Top 40 new entry.

Dropped by Activision-Blizzard after its merger with Vivendi, the THQ published game debuts at No22, while the previous 50 Cent title (Bulletproof) debuted at No5.

So House of the Dead went from 10th to 9th place. Thats pretty good.

LBP is holding well.. still charting relatively nicely for PS3

Oh man, SFIV numbers are going to be massive! Good job for Capcom!

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

It beat the 360 version! Hmmm

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

You didn't already know this?  Where have you been haha.  Of course SFIV was going to be huge.

But as most people should have known, Street Fighter is a huge property and glad it did so well.  Got a huge following from the real old school and hardcore gamers.  Also glad to see that Dawn of War II and Race Pro open nicely and Overkill increases in sales.  Great week.

Ireland added in the second post.

  • "Street Fighter IV" takes the 1st place
  • "Ben 10: Alien Force" reach the 2nd place, for its second week.
  • "Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2" begins in place 6.
  • "Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection" begins in place 8.
  • "Disney's Bolt" reach the top 20 for its second week, up to place 15.

Thanks, I really like the format you use here for new releases. SFIV seems like it had a massive first week, but we can't tell how much. Fortunately this was the last week of Chart-Track's/ELSPA's February, so February ELSPA Sales Awards should give us a good indication of how much it sold (not updated yet).

Really pleased for Mega Drive collection, I expected it to make the top 40, but not to be that high. It didn't even need "Sonic" in the title as was deemed necessary for the US release.

Good to see Disgaea actually made the PS3 chart, if only just. More niche than Eternal Sonata, and in a week with stronger new releases, so thought it might have a hard job even making the PS3 top 30.

Great second week for House of the Dead: Overkill, UK is still Sega land :)

So as someone who used to spend all my spare change on SFII Coin Op, I must ashamedly admit to not getting around to buying SFIV yet, this is a must buy for this week, along with Sega Mega Drive Collection. Sega and Capcom are my two favourite publishers this gen, some real quality stuff from them.

SFIV and SMD Collection both being old school franchises and both selling more on PS3 this week could suggest that PS3 demographic is quite a bit older than X360 demographic.
