Forums - Sales - When will Sony drop PS3's Price?

It's in my sig, $50 price cut in the summer and another right before the holidays

this^ for price cut.

Yes it will outsell the 360. PS3 has proven to sell better then the 360 in the same time frame. It also has shown that it can at LEAST perform on par with the 360 with a slightly higher price tag.

Most likely by Christmas.

Sony will announce their bankruptcy soon after.

I still don't see how they are going to swing big cuts. Minor price drop this spring - $30-$50? I personally don't think it's enough, at least in North America which is all I know well, to make a huge difference beyond the initial bounce from people waiting for it specifically.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

That will never happen. At the worst case scenario, they'll be bailed out by the Japanese govt.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Sony wouldn't even NEED to price cut if the media would stop reassuring the masses that Sony will be giving one. Thats what is really forcing their hand on the matter. Sony wants to make money on the product they worked so hard on. The system is worth more then they sell it for already. Yet stupid companies like Yahoo and analysts like the douche with the glasses keep saying "Sony will cut price soon!".

So what do people do? Sit and wait for the price to cut before getting one, in turn bringing down the sales of the system.

At about the same time they announce a 250gig sku...

50 dollar price drop next year. I don't think sony will drop the price this year.

Regarding EU/USA profitability, the difference in price isn't a big deal now:

PS3 in USA - $400 (excluding tax)
PS3 in Europe - 400 € (including tax), or about 330 € excluding tax which is about $420.

In short there's a $20-$30 price difference between the Eurozone and USA. In UK the PS3 is actually cheaper than in USA with the current exchange rates.

Five most likely times:

- April 2009 - New fiscal year, they'll have to sell an enormous amount of software to make up for it, but PS3 is nearly profitable in Europe so I don't think its impossible for a PS3 price cut in April somewhere

- June 2009 - E3. If PS3 becomes profitable really soon, they can build a bit of a fund to offset future losses and then cut in June.

- August 2009 - Leipzig. Same deal, but with more time to build a fund to justify future losses.

- October 2009 - TGS?...Probably a drop to prepare Japan for Final Fantasy XIII/Gran Turismo 5 in Japan

- April 2010 - New fiscal year. Economic recovery possible worldwide...helping the Yen and Sony's other businesses. PS3 attach rate should be alot higher as well.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM,

Well thought out Interesting!!!!
