Forums - PC - Recommend me some good retro RPG's!

Like Stone Prophet or Ultima!

And if someone knows where I can download Stone Prophet, I'd be a tub full of all kinds of grateful!

Feeling the nostalgia coarsing through my veins after having played through Betrayal at Krondor again last night so I'm really feeling up for some good old gems, as long as I can find it I'll give it a try!

I was about to recommend the Home of the Underdogs website since it was a great place to find old games that were freely available, but they seem to be down, hopefully not permanently.

Stone Prophet and Strahd's possession were fun games. I miss those multi-game packs that TSR used to put out. The 2 Dark Sun games were a lot of fun too (Shattered Lands & Wake of the Ravager).

As for other retro games, I'm partial to the wizardry series and find myself cracking out 7 and 8 every once in awhile.

The only teeth strong enough to eat other teeth.

Hell yeah, Dark Sun! I was just about to recommend those two.

Dark Sun? Never played those! I'll see if I can find them! Was Strahd's Possession made by Dynamix? It sounds familiar...
There is also this one game I've been trying for ages to remember the name of, it played like Stone Prophet and was set in a grim world filled with ghosts and wraiths, there were tombstones scattered everywhere and you explored caves, cities, forests and mountains.
Lands of Lore were also very good games, Westwood really knew their stuff!

Edit; found Strahd's Possession and Dark Sun 1 and 2! Hit the retro RPG goldmine here; http://games.holyfile.com/?Ravenloft-StrahdsPossession/RPG/Abandonware/download/2433

Is this the game you were referring to?

Also, if you haven't already played Betrayal at Krondor, now's the time.

Albion is also awesome.

Rogue is the original roguelike, so if you're into those, you know what to do.

noname2200: Thanks for the links! Betrayal at Krondor is the best game ever made imo and I think I've played through it about 7-8 times now!
Jeez, the early 90's truly were a golden age for solid RPGs!
Keep 'em coming if you have any good ideas (also if someone knows of a way to make Daggerfall work in dosbox withput crashing every 10 minutes I'd jump with joy)!

My favorite has always been the impossible ASCII Roguelike game, Ancient Domains of Mystery.

Do you own a PS3 or 360?  Get the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, which has all the Phantasy Stars (1-4) and also the Shining series of games.  You also get the Nethack-Rogue inspired game, "Fatal Labrynth", for it to.  Of course, you need to like soem JRPGs stuff.

Well, how low you can go? :)

How about wizardry 1-8?

I love me a good JRPG! Don't have a 360 or a PS3 yet but I'll get the collection once I do (this summer)!

Does anyone know if the Krynn games follow the storylines of any of the books, like the Heroes series? I've read a fair amount of Dragonlance novels in my time...
