Forums - Website Topics - Vgchartz traffic spikes since Wii/360 hubbub

http://alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url=vgchartz.com Since the Wii has passed the 360, the traffic for Vgchartz has increased incredibly, reaching its highest ever level since the site's Daily Reach peak in May. Due to this, Vgchartz.com has become one of the Top 15,000 ranked websites in the world. Not only that, but Vgchartz has gotten to be on the Top 2,000 sites in Guatemala and Slovenia. If trends continue, Vgchartz will become one of the Top 2,000 ranked websites in the United Kingdom too. Daily Reach, is of course, the percent of internet users who visit Vgchartz. The amount has increased 120% over the last 3 months. Things are looking up for Vgchartz. We should take advantage of this traffic peak and let people know that Vgchartz is the source for great sales information.

It really is impressive what the site is achieving (slovenia and Guatemala is interesting). I see good things in the future. Site specific advertising, Canadian numbers, more and more criticism from Neogaf. These are golden times people. Good times indeed.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Why did it peak in May?

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

Well yes it gone up, but i won't be so happy about it, until we know how much it will go down after the "news" has become old. I personally don't see that much new users on the board.

There are plenty of lurkers on this site, usually 5 to 10 times more than those logged in and posting. Many people look to the site for news and sales and feel no need to participate in discussions. This is why you won't see a huge influx of new members, unless they have a burning desire to be heard.

I really have no clue. Maybe it was coincidence, maybe a popular game came out and everyone wanted to see the sales.

Oh, and I think the real achievement will be Top 2,000 in UK, not offense to Guatemala or Slovenia.

True, but still, yesterday the traffic was going down and most likley it will stay that way. All i want to say is that, the news was very good for the site, traffic and reputation wise (thats why i helped louie every way i could with the press release). But we can not see how good the long effect is at the moment. I'm hoping it is good, but it is to early to say.

I think the Vgchartz and NPD sales gap may have hurt us. It's a shame, you wouldn't imagine the type of bad mouthing goes on in some sites.

Outside of "major" news reporting periods, I see the same traffic on here everyday. Around 80-100 members, and 450-600 users in total.

I'm hoping we will see increasingly larger traffic spikes whenever there is sales news. And I am also hoping the reporting dates even out, so we have something to discuss every day or two. Still seems to be very stop-start at the moment.

We have also slacked off reporting "news" in general - been a heap of new games, game announcements from GC.

...

@re: accuracy - I think we need to settle on "some" measure of measuring our accuracy (whether its relative to NPD or something else - I'm not sure) and make that data *really* obvious and available. I'd love to see a graph (for instance) of our 'accuracy' over time. That way it really shows that we aren't hiding anything...and are striving to get better and better results.

Another element may be this... with all the result publicity, I am hoping VGChartz is a more "well known" name - which in turn makes it easier for ioi to collect even more data. This may turn out to be the "lasting legacy" of the recent press release.
