doesnt gamestop usually release all the stores that are having a midnight release on their website a few days before the release of a game?

This is waht they're doing in Spain (from neogaf):

Sony Spain's HUGE marketing campaign for KILLZONE 2:

- Tv spots starting on frebuary 21.
- Spot also on cinemas.
- February 25. One day prior to the launh of the game, a big tv spot (1 min long) will be aired in some of the most important channels (Antena 3, cuatro, sexta, fox, paramount, AXN).
- Huge amount of advertising on newspapers and magazines. Marca and As are two big sport magazines in Spain, both will be decored with Killzone 2 motifs on february 26.
- Orange and vodafone will send sms about the game and its launch.

They're not going all out like that in NA, likely because advertising in general is more costly here.

I expect this to be the another anomoly among shooters - one that will sell more in Europe than in North America, much like the first Killzone.

 

Also Sony is simply stronger here which is probably the reason why they try more here with adverts at least. The first sold something crazy like 2 million in just EU which is amazing for what was ultimately a failure. Correct me if I am wrong on that number but EU was big, we stick up for our people. :P

That is certainly also part of the equation.  Plus, the game is SCEE's pride and joy.  They're going to go all out on it.

Killzone topped 2 million overall, not just in Europe.  However, considering that the game sold ~750k in NA, that means it sold at least 1.25k in Europe, and thus at least 62% of it's sales were from Europe.

I think it was because of a combination of better marketing, the fact that are some of the few European developers outside of the UK (the only major developers in the Netherlands) and Europeans like to support their own, and the fact that, being European, that have a better mind of what Europeans look for in a shooter.

Hell, last I heard Killzone is the best selling game EVER in Poland!

As long as this game keeps on selling I am happy, I want to have players constantly online and not have it die out in a month.

Should easily beat the 2M Killzone did and go for 3M.

Going by the advertising, it could do double that.

It'll probably be in the 800k-1 million range, though, which is what I've always predicted.

I hope they have a midnight release at the gamestop I preordered at. Probably not, they haven't had a prerelease for one single PS3 game there. There's another one farther away that had a prerelease for MGS4 so I probably should have reserved it there. :(
