Atlus USA Brings Crimson Gem Saga Stateside

02.20.09 - 8:19 PM

Atlus USA has announced that they will be bringing the PSP RPG Crimson Gem Saga to North America on May 26, 2009. Developed by IRONNOS and Matrix Software, the game was originally known in Korean territories as Astonishia Story 2. The game features hand-drawn artwork and an easy-to-use interface.

"We are very excited to be able to work with Atlus [USA] because of their exceptional reputation in the field of localization," said Mr. Jung Il Lee, Console Development Division Director of IRONNOS. "We are pleased that our game will be getting the care and attention it deserves, and eagerly look forward to its release into the North American market."

Crimson Gem Saga has not yet been rated by the ESRB and will retail at an MSRP of $29.99 USD.

It looks pretty interesting. Thanks man...

Should justify a PSP purchase even more.

For me any atlus game is a purchase!

(Unless that game happens to be Opertation Darkness)

Awesome. There are so many RPGs being released for the DS and PSP that I have a hard time keeping up on my 'future purchase' list.

The first Astonishia Story was rated poorly on RPGFan. It received a brutal 52%. I didn't see anything about Atlus on the wiki page or reviews though. Hopefully this new game has developers that can make it great. Looking forward to the reviews.

Person 2:  No.
Person 1: Forget it. I'm not buying it.
Person 2: Wait! It's amazing! Unique, charming, drop dead gorgeous... Hello?

Asia Gets Astonishia Story 2 In Another Language? Maybe English?

By Spencer . September 29, 2008 . 11:01am

For like the two people that care Astonishia Story 2 is coming out in Japan in October 23 under the name Garnet Chronicle with Sega playing the role of the distributor. SK Telecom, one South Korea’s major mobile phone service providers, is acting as the publisher. The version released in Japan will be completely localized into Japanese.

Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong has a listing for Crimsongem Saga brandishing the similar, but not identical box art. Sega doesn’t have any involvement with this release, which makes sense since they don’t actively publish games in Asia. The name change is a little strange, though. Why would SK Telecom go through all of the trouble to make a new English name for Crimsongem Saga when art for Garnet Chronicle already exists? One possibility is Crimsongem Saga is in another language, possibly English. Unfortunately, SCEH doesn’t list if Crimsongem Saga will be in Japanese, Chinese, Korean or English. We’ll have to wait until October 13 to find out. If you’re one of the ten people crossing your fingers for an English version of Astonishia Story 2 this may be it.

What’s even stranger than the Crimsongem Saga / Garnet Chronicle/ Astonishia Story 2 language debacle is it doesn’t even have a release date in Korea yet. You know, the place where it’s created.

Crimsongem Saga Is An English Version Of Astonishia Story 2

By Spencer . October 24, 2008 . 4:37am

I saw Crimsongem Saga in a store and it’s definitely an English version of Garnet Chronicle / Astonishia Story 2. The box says the in game text is in English and so is the manual. However, I’m skeptical about the quality of the translation. The back of the box has slogans like “Legend of Korean Game! RPG you can explore now!” My morbid sense of curiosity tempted me to purchase it, but there are quality games like DJ Max Portable Clazziquai Edition out this week too.

No US publisher has announced Astonishia Story 2 / Garnet Chronicle yet. So, if you’re itching to play Astonishia Story 2 in English the Asian version is your best bet.
