You knew full well what you'd get when Dead Rising came to the Wii

No, I wasn't expecting bad programming and terrible animations or static enemies/extremely dumb AI nor should anyone expect that from Capcom. Check the video out:

When you have to work with 1/4th the memory and less cpu/graphics IF you decide to port the game as is, it's kinda expected that graphics will not be the only thing suffering, I think that is why companies like EA actually are trying not to do straight ports but going for something different.

First of all, I don't know the machine specs, so I am not going to debate that.

However, poor machine specs does not excuse poor game design decisions. After all, a lot was done on the PS2 and it has less hardware than the Gamecube. And we all know that the Wii is nothing more than two GCs duck-taped together.

PS -- Yes, I know its duct-taped. But duck-taped is funnier!

Maybe you should read up on Japan a little bit.

I think if games like these fail, where the 3rd party companies are giving the console games similar to the HD consoles, then it is more likely to be another nail in the coffin that is 3rd party support rather than a turn-around for them to take the wii more seriously...

NO! The problem has always been the lack of effort put into the games that third parties release for the Wii. Capcom could have easily invested more resources in the development of Dead Rising: Chop til you drop, like develop an engine that is made from the ground up like they are doing with Monster Hunter 3. Instead they decided to use an engine developed for the Gamecube. That did not cost them anything. Capcom ported this game for a quick money grab. Dead Rising 2 is not even announced for the Wii .

Secondly, Capcom's support of the Wii has not been good.

Zack and the Wiki, no advertising

Okami, a port with no advertising.

Resident Evil 4: Wii edition, a port

Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, a light gun game

Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Japan only

Dead Rising, a port

Neopets Adventure, a puzzle game

Spyborgs or Spybots, I do not care for the name, a game aimed at kids

Monster Hunter 3, is the only game capcom is making besides Zack and the Wiki and Resident Evil:UC that shows effort. Now compare their support for the Wii to the HD platforms or their recent announcements of support, Dead Rising 2 and Lost Planets 2. It's clear that the Wii is an after thought in their development plans or just a revenue stream.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

Well to try and add to this thread, Dead Rising: CTYD is not a very good port. One of the best aspects of the original was the camera.

Now you are playing a photographic journalist in a zombie infected mall, but without your camera, colour me confused, but that doesn't make any sense.

No, that just means they took out a feature you liked. That doesn't make it a bad port (not even really a port).

So how does the story make any sense?   Now you just go through a mall killing zombies, sounds like real fun.

as mike said dead rising shows clearly lack of effort. of course wii is not monster hardware wise, but even on ps2 you could remade dead rising with RE4 engine and same content as a 360 version with same number of zombies on screen as hd version. if i remember devil kings 2(or something similarly named) was a ps2 3d action beat'em up game with the highest enemies shown on screen ever(6.4k at once). so making 800 zombies in DR wii version is possible without any framerate drops - heck even if there was only half of them i would be happy but right now we saw maybe 30-40 zombies on screen and only in few parts of the mall:/

"but even on ps2 you could remade dead rising with RE4 engine and same content as a 360 version with same number of zombies on screen as hd version."

Based on what? That Hitman video, which might not have even had AI for everyone? Or something else?

The 6th gen systems can't handle that many. Thinking they can won't make it so. It's not just the scale of the graphics. HD systems also have multi core processors to handle all that AI.

The PS2 had two vector units added to the CPU. Those handle basic calculations. Great for rendering, not for hundreds of independent enemies.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

"Dead Rising 2 is not even announced for the Wii."

That doesn't mean they won't port it, especially if this makes money.

And making an engine for the ground up wouldn't make the graphics that much better. Monster Hunter does not have loads of enemies all active at once.

I for one am buying this tomorrow, purely out of curiosity. The 360 version was great, and despite some negative impressions I have I will give it a chance. Sure I might be a fool, but I have the money, have bought all the games I want ATM, and have plenty of time. I think it is fair to criticize the way this game has been implemented on Wii, but I also think that it some things will have to give to put that many enemies on screen. Especially if the AI is actually more "aggressive" as Capcom has said. I'm not making excuses, but I wan't to wait and see. Plus it is bargain priced.

As I said before, I don't think that the wii can sell regular games, call it trolling if you want, I don't care. If you're looking at numbers, here is what sells on wii:

- nintendo games
- casual games
- and of course "famous" games.

LOL I love this, cuz only last year it was that only nintendo games sell on a nintendo system. now its nintendo games, casual games and "famous" games.

next to go are "regular" games whatever those are. man i cant wait till I can play some regular games on my wii!
