PS3 will probably finish in 3rd place worldwide, but the kicker is this generation will mark the first time the 2nd and 3rd place systems get the majority (exclusive or not) of the so called 3rd party blockbuster core games.

Firstly the PS3 need to be selling more consoles that the xbox does worldwide every week.  Only then can people can talk about the PS3 overtaking the xbox.

At the moment the xbox is selling at like 50,000 more units a week than the PS3.  So as it stands the gab is getting bigger.

Didn't Mr. Everybody-Loves-Me Greenberg state that if the PS3 sales DOUBLED and 360 sales remained flat it would take 6 whole years to catch up?

Giving it 2 years to catch-up and overtake the 360 as of right now would mean that it would have to outsell the 360 by 4million consoles a year, which would mean outselling it every week for 104 weeks straight by 77K/week. That's if it were to happen right now, but it's the 360 that is gaining ground with those kinds of numbers right now. Every week that the 360 continues to add to its lead means pretty much means 2 extra weeks (1 to catch up the lost week, 1 to chip away at the current 8mil gap) for the PS3 to catch up if/when? it starts to outpace the 360.

a ps3 doesnt have to be same price as 360 to sell more units........so patcher is wrong there, i doubt ps3 will make much inroads this year although with decent pricing it could eat into gap imo..........a mass market price for ps3 using pounds i would say 199 - 179 mabey that copuld happen in 2010 but deffo not in 2009..........as parts manfacturing becomes ceaper including bluray drives its highly possible that ps3 can be manufactured a hell of a lot cheaper just like the ps2 eventually was.
