I wish Jaffe would've grown some balls and answered the questions
1. I'm not Kutaragi or Stringer but to me it seemed that they were only trying to bring playstation fans the bleeding edge tech with many an entertainmen options that they had become accustomed to as playstation fans. I think it happened to cost a little more than anyone was expecting but over time as it becomes a little less expensive i'm sure more people will be jumping on board.
2. i don't think that giving playstation fans what they expected was a crippling move. Being an electronics manufacturer is a tough proposition as any company can tell you right now. Even Nintendo is lowering it's profit forecasts right now. As the recession worsens people are veiwing electronics as more and more as luxuries. The PS3 is not singlehandly causing any crisis in Sony. HDTV adoption and many other things such as the global economy play a large role and I think many forget about the non Playstation tasks that Sony participates in.
3. No low morale around here. People are still getting make great games for great hardware. We've been practically left untouched as far as restructuring goes so we are still being thankful for our blessings
4.Blu Ray is actually being adopted quite well. People said a lot of things about DVD in it's upstart days and look at where it is today. Blu Ray is fighting many of the same battles and I believe it is succeeding slowly but surely. I'm sure once we have higher HD penetration we'll see even more interest
5.PSN has always been an evolving service. The same with our XMB. That was one of the benefits of upgradable firmware that we've seen with the PSP. Nothing wrong for leaving space to offer even greater entertainment options and improve upon the groundwork we've already laid. The Wii's firmware updates and the New Xbox Experience tell us we were correct in this assumption.
6. Business Markets can be fickle. It can be difficult to discern consumers needs, but I believe that is the best interest of that market that was always in the minds of our leaders
7. My biggest concern is that people veiw the PS3 as a failure when it's absolutely captivating what we've done so far. We've sold the same amount faster than our nearest competitor regardless of price differences, Have shipped millions of first and third party software to much acclaim, and made long roads torwards bringing our community of gamers closer together with PSN.
