I always go with GR because the aggregate scores are easier to read for me.

As Torillian pointed out, GR is down ATM so it couldn't be used.

But the fact remains, the holy grail of jrpgs, the ps2, according to western reviewers only had 3 AAA titles. It's always been a fact western reviewers underscore jrpgs. It's repulsive people only bring this up to shun the 360's rpg library. Using that logic, I should be able to say the ps2 had mostly crappy jrpgs and only three good ones.

True, but the great or good RPG's for the PS2 like Dark Chronicle, XenoSaga I and 3,  Rogue Galaxy, Dragon quest VIII, Valkyrie Profile 2, Star Ocean III, Final Fantasy X-2, Kingdom Hearts I and 2, Persona 3, Shadow Hearts 1 and 2, Suikoden 3 and Odin Sphere all have an avarage between 82 and 89% at Gamerankings.

Most of the RPG's that have come so far for the Xbox 360 and few one's for the PS3 just aren't as good. The only one's which you put in the list above when it come's to overall quality are probably Tales of Vesperia and Valkyria Chronicles . Ironicly the PS3 version of Eternal Sonata has an avarage of 82% and even though it's superior to the XBox 360 version it doesn't deserve more than a 7,5 in my book and the other version a 7,0 at best.

I really am at a loss trying to decipher the reviewers complaints with the character designs. They're using the same 'stock-standard' anime style design to appeal to the sensibilities of the target audience as almost every other JRPG. Why has this just now been something to criticize for being 'generic'? Were they to whack on the 'cheap trick' cel-shader textures, the character designs would all of a sudden be praised for their beautiful art.

 QFT.

Seems like I am going to jump on the "cell-shaded is overrated!" bandwagon soon, cause it really feels like it's becoming overrated and that reviewers are easy on every cell-shaded game.

Eternal Sonata is not bad.

It's much better than Blue Dragon and quite a few other JRPG's so far. I think low 8's high 7's accurate for it personally.

Cool. I'm definitely getting this come the 24th. I'm really excited. I don't think I will mind the long cut scenes too much, since I like that kind of thing (big fan of MGS).

The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the fact you will have to swap discs everytime you want to go back to a different area. I think MS should do some kind of hard drive install option. I don't want to get up every time I need to go to a different planet.

Very good score for Star Ocean, looks like a promising game!

I'm a big fan of long ass cutscenes.... it started off for me with Xenosaga.

45 minutes without pause?!?

That's utterly ridiculous. It's basically admitting you had no idea how to make the game, just the story. There's a solution for that: make a movie!

I'll still buy it, unfortunately there's not much to choose if you want to play JRPGs.

Except that they do, and it doesn't seem like you're being sarcastic. You can install every single game to the HDD with the new Xbox experience update.

I know they do. I have a 360 with an 120 gig HD. Ever since, I've liked the console alot better because I can hear the score and dialogue of the game rather than the DVD drive. For SO4, I imagine you would still have to swap discs each time for verification purposes - unless they can make a special patch for it where you only need the first disc to play, but have the full game installed as an option.
