Forums - Nintendo - Wiisistance is futile, Wiimageddon is almost upon us...

Topic titles like these make me realize exactly why nintendo came up with the name "Wii".

Never argue with an idiot.  They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

It's only Wiimageddon to people who believe what you believe same way some people think the end of the world can come at any moment. It's reality to them.

You do realise that in terms of critical response, sales, and fanbase anticipation, the Wii's upcoming holiday lineup is probably the strongest in the history of gaming? There are at least 3 games coming that will almost certainly beat 5 million sold, and around half a dozen that have an excellent shot at the million barrier.

Let's look at Game Ranking's all-time top ten best reviewed games list. The successors of two of those games are coming out on the Wii, and there are several others that have a chance of being decent to superb.

The Xbox 360 is doing ok as well, since one of the games just came out a week ago, and another is getting a sequel in a month or so, but the PS3 has absolutely nothing comparable. There are something like 5 games in the probable 80-90 with maybe one that will be remembered in a year's time, and that's assuming even more of them don't get bumped to 08.

Some bias is inevitable in discussing things like these, but please try to keep some perspective of things. The horrible casual Nintendo monster isn't going to eat your games or anything.

Btw I was out of console gaming for a few years, and would very much be interested if anyone can think of a holiday lineup anywhere near comparable. Don't think there is one, but would be interesting to do some comparisons.

@ugg1020

That's a very pwiicise and wiigorous analysis. Succinct and witty.

Shame on the community members who read the original post and replied without commenting on the errors in that last. Double shame on the Wii owners who read the list and commented without mentioning the above. To the original poster it is incumbant upon you to fact check your posts with a degree of dilegence.

Unless there are some things I am unaware of. Red Steel 2 has not even been announced let alone received a release date. Which could hardly be considered for this year.

Disaster Day of Crisis has gone totally underground. Might not even see the light of day. There was no showing at E3, and even if it is getting reworked it probably would not arrive this year.

Mariokart Wii has not had its release date announced, and from Nintendos press conference the inference was that it would not arrive in any market till the first quarter next year.

Wii music was slated for 08 the last time I checked if there is a current article to back this up please present it. I have found only speculation and no firm release date.

I question the reasoning behind making these kinds of lists, but if your going to do it they should be valid lists shouldn't they?

Indeed and that is your opinion, however can you justify how the PS3 has a better line up for this year than the Wii? I seriously dont see how that can be possible when you consider its three biggest hitters (FF13, MGS4 and GT5) are coming next year and 3 of its 4 big titles for this year (HS, Lair, Warhawk) are starting to get mediocre reviews.

Wii- Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, No More Heroes, Smash Bros. (I'm not a very big Smash fun but I like playing it).

PS3- Ratchet and Clank, Devil May Cry, Heavenly Sword, Stranglehold, UT 3, Warhawk, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted.

cklmb, that is YOUR opinion.

For example, I could do my most anticipated games

Wii- Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, No More Heroes, Smash Bros., Manhunt 2, Zack and Wiki, Dewy's Adventure, Battalion Wars 2, RE: Umbrella Chronicles, Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime 3

PS3- R&C, UT3, Uncharted

 I do agree 360 still has the best line-up.

Consoles I Own: NES, SNES, N64, GC, GBA, DS, X360, Wii

What I find scary is that almost every one of those titles interests me, and could be a potential purchase - at least. The Wii easily has the best spread of titles across all genres - and for harcore/casual gamers.

Most of the PS3 AND 360 titles hitting will only appeal to the same people who have already bought those consoles (or already intend to buy one). The same doesn't apply to the Wii lineup - and that is what makes it so powerful.

(so if you think in terms of the colour spectrum - the PS3 & 360 are putting out really strong light in one or two colours. It helps the PS3 to have titles like SingStar available, although it doesn't help that the console is still not priced casually. Nintendo on the other hand is generally fairly strong white light - across all spectrums - something that everyone can see!).

(and its not like the Wii needs more reasons for people to head out and pick one up anyway - as its still selling out. This just ensures that whatever extra units are available for Xmas will be snapped up, and that there is sell-out pressure through most of next year).

That pun was so gay....I can't even take this thread seriously.

If you ask me, it looks like you went to Wikipedia and looked up Wii titles.

There are tons of unproven titles, such as No More Heroes or (ewwwww) Red Steel 2. Besides....I thought Super Paper Mario has already come out? Does this cement my theory that you just copied a list?

Some of the games are multiplatform, some are unproven, some have had bad prequels, and yes, some of them are going to be incredibly good based on the quality of their series.

Oh, and at least 2 or 3 of them aren't coming out until 2008, Mario Kart for example. A bunch of them don't even have release dates yet, even if slated for 07. But I think you're tired of my rambling. It will be interesting, but the 360 lineup beats it.

And oh, sorry if I seemed harsh. I need some Diet Coke to lighten the mood.

@Dodece

Mea Culpa.

@MontanaHatchet

You are correct. Super Paper Mario should be on the shelves this holiday season and part of what looks to me to be a very strong lineup.

@Shams

Yes, exactly! The diversity of the lineup is part of what I was alluding to. Very DS like.

Well, it seemed that most of your games were upcoming, so I assumed you meant it hadn't come out yet. Thanks for clearing that up.

Diet Coke, mmmmm.....

Bingo!

It's NOT that the 360 line is all shooters, it's that all the big games are either FPS or Action; throw in 2 decent JRPGs

PS3 is about the same but has a big adventure game (Uncharted) and a big platformer (R&C), throw in Little Big Planet which is a hardcore game; any game that worships a genre (2D Platforming) adds in level creation and the online play is online.  It drives me nuts when other PS3 owners call it casual.  Oh and the big one GT.

Wii has the FPS, Action, Adventure, Platformer, RPGs, Racing, etc.  It also has the new genre hardcore stuff like Trauma Center.  Then it has the cooking games, more music games (with motion!), brain games, creative games, etc. etc. etc.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
