The UK Parliament has sovereignty over all over political bodies in the UK. They have the ability to remove the Scottish Parliament, and the Welsh/NI Assemblies.

Not trying to argue for/against your points, just putting out some facts.

Thanks for the facts. :D

Hm, so I'm living in the country of Bavaria in Germany, because it happens to be a so called free state and to have its own parliament and its own constitution. You never stop learning.

Back to the UK problem: then call all of them countries, but basically if there wasn't the historical thing going on, they would be called regions or states.

But there is a historical thing going on.

I would hardly call an almost 700ft long ship tiny.

Well, US carriers are twice the size as France's Charles De Gaule carrier, and three or so times as big as Englands. I also think they are escort carriers that primarily carry planes for self defence of the fleet.

What is your obsession with aircraft carriers? This is just as pointless of an arguement as argueing on who has the bigger penises.

Hmm, pie.

They are not countries. It is a common misconception. The United Kingdom is a country, not England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, as they each do not have their own independent political government.

Your point being? The guy said no-one else did. He was wrong.

I would hardly call an almost 700ft long ship tiny.

United Kingdom is a country but it's also a sovereign state, as it it governs the main 4 countries that make up the UK. Which are all countries in themselves.

Wales and Ulster have their own assemblies and Scotland has it's own parliament. England does not. UK has a parliament that can govern all 4 countries.

If I am correct I beleive the people of Northern Ireland have the right under the good friday agreement to hold a referendum to join a united Ireland.

And the British government have said they will accept and recognise the outcome of said referendum.

Odd that some Americans still think they are the biggest and bestest country in the world, in everything.

Europe can blow the US from the face of the earth as good as China or Russia can. Don't underestimate the dark side of the force.

Why do you find the truth so odd? No other country comes even remotely close.

Oh, and to that other guy....

I didn't start the aircraft carrier talk, someone else did. But since it was mentioned, you can't be a super power without large carriers. The UK learned that lesson during the Falkland wars.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

You can't be a superpower with your last president having no brain?

In Economics and Politics we're taught to count the UK as a country and England, Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland as constituent states.

Or that may just be so when exams come around and they are marked there is clarity and so that the markscheme can not be contested for being too vague.

Well, if you think your country is the greatest in everything, fair enough. I reckon the truth is quite bendable in this case.

1. Human rights? Just one word: Guantanamo

2. Education? Literacy rate is higher in ! Cuba ! and in every other western country i.e.

3. Export of goods? Hm, not that good at all...

4. medical healthcare? Great for the richest, okay for the middle class, nearly not there/ like in a 3rd world country for the rest

etc....

The USA are a great country, but by saying, you're the best at everything, you basically just proof ignorance.

Didn't realize, that the UK tried to be a superpower during the Falkland war (they've won it anyway). I've always thought, they just wanted to keep their base close to the antarctica, to be able to get some of the possibly found natural reserves later on. But I might be wrong on that.

Falkland War is odd politically but that aside from that we do have a 'British Antartic Territory' which is under United Kingdom govern and owned by our head of state. So base close to antartic was not the issue there.
