PSI actually didn't realize that.  I was under the impression that the launch dates were closer together for some reason.

If that's the case then comparing the JP SNES launch to the US 360 launch is more than fair.  I stand corrected.

Also, to finalize this fun debate. I threw my NA launch for the SNES vs the NA launch for the Xbox 360 due to that MrStickBall's challange felt although it was nessessary to find the strongest launch that can beat the 360's NA launch. SNES's North american Launch definately can, even though I can't find 4 titles. Those 3 titles are nearly must-haves and they are all launch titles.

Its either I compare the Japanese launch of both systems or the north american launch of both systems, I chose the stronger of the two and went with the North American Launch of both systems to compare launch games.

MrStickBall is right though, if we're comparing launch titles we should compare home terroritories. We're dealing with the 4th generation, launches can be months away from eachother. It isn't that way anymore.

Correct. We have to be across the board with our comparisons for home territories, because those have the least advantaged when it comes to development time of any given game. Merely because if you do want to souly go by 'best launch ever, in any territory, any timeframe' we could, and would have to dig for more obscure launches that had the advantage of much longer development cycles, such as the SNES US launch which had 3 fantastic games, as well as the PS2 US launch which was incredible as well.

Said 3 'really great launches that were 6+ months after their initial launch':

N64 EU:

Playstation 2 US:

Playstation 3, PAL:

Xbox 360, AU:

See how the list changes, and is usually much better than the inital territory? Thats why it's critical to observe first-launched territories. Even the N64 launches doubled in size and quality, since Turok and SW:SotE were both great additions to the launch lineup. Same goes for the PS3 PAL, X360 AU, and PS2 US, since they all had an additional 6 months of development time.

Average for me in video-games is 90. If it scores under 90 its just passable, but thanks for taking time to check scores. :)

Kos-Mos, you must not buy a lot of games then. Which totally contradicts your game listing which has many games under that 90% barrier.

But most over 90. But back to the topic: A NEXT-GEN SYSTEM SHOULD HAVE A A++++ GAME on launch. All Nintendo consoles had it. Why couldn`t 360 have it? Read my posts. And then again...I don`t know even if I want to go there, but metacritics have most reviews from us sites. Mostly. Don`t forget in this generation, many reviews are higher score just becuase it`s this and that system. Why not get reviews from more gaming sites/magazines in Europe and Japan? Would that make a difference?

yeah of course 90 is average.....

Kos-Mos, unfortunately, not every studio has the large number of 1st party studios that Nintendo has, as Nintendo is the one of the few studios that regularly employed a 'big' game to launch.

Playstation never had one. Xbox had one, yet the sales were exactly opposite of eachother.

Look at sales history, it's very rare for a system to sell well by resting on the laurels of 1 launch title. Despite the X360 not having that AAA title, it's having no difficulty outselling the N64, and may beat the SNES. Again, without a AAA title at launch.

Why? Because a launch doesn't define a console. That's why games such as Oblivion, Halo 3, Mass Effect, and dozens of solid, 80-90% titles have done so well. This is why the X360 has already beaten the N64 in terms of million sellers with a lower install base. Just because the game isn't AAA doesn't mean that millions won't like the game. After all, Wii Sports is horribly reviewed, but people seem to like it. In the same way that some of those 360 launch games may not have been Super Mario Bros. or Halo, but they still managed to have quite a few million sellers.

It's always better to have a diverse library with very good titles, instead of a narrow library with very good titles. The GC and N64 proved that.

@Kos-mos

Instead of bashing America, how about being a little self-critical for a bit - what good did Norway bring to the world?

Ok, but I want three perfect games than 50 average games. Again. My opinion. thanks for the post :)

First of all. When did I bash the whole continent america?

2. Are you offended?

3. us isn`t America. us is in America. And why would I answer what Norway brought to the world?

4. What was the topic really?

5. Have I ever said Norway was a good country?

6. Why do you think I`m a nationalist?

7. Can you please answer all these questions?
