Forums - Gaming - Top 5 FPS ever played?

Any true hardcore FPS fan will always list Q3 arena in their top 5.

Unfortunately for me, I'm just not that good at it.  It requires more skill than any other game I know.

This is exactly why I quite playing. I put hundreds, probably thousands, of hours into this game and I wasn't quite near the elite. Close but not quite there. I would play maybe three to five hours a day but that just wasn't good enough to be able to really compete. As much as I love the game, I do have other interests in life and also want to spend my time doing those. Honestly, if someone new were to step into the Q3A online community right now, they'd probably need to spend 8-12 hours a day every day for at least a year or 18 months to truly compete with the top players.

The community is great, the competition is awesome, the game is perfect but just requires so much time to really compete. I cannot play a game and just half-ass it so if I'm going to play I want to challenge whoever I come across. Unfortunately, I simply do not have the time anymore to dedicate to the game. I occasionally think about installing it and firing up some freeze tag and I know I won't be far behind where I left off. However, those that didn't quit will be far superior.

I know that I will never be the gamer I once was during the 90's when it comes to consoles. Solely because of Quake 3. However, I truly cherish all of my memories with that game because it opened me up to a whole new world of gaming with fierce competition.

Quakecon is something else. You just have to attend. Playing against some of the top 25 players in the world, in person, is a thrill. My wife told me the other day that if I wanted to go to that she would come with. I'm like.. "You realize that this is four days of non-stop 24 hour gaming?" She's like.. "I'll lay and tan by the pool." That honestly has me thinking about it.. =)
