Yeah I totally missed out on that Duke Nukem on the PS One :( I should go try to find it right now lol...was it the same as Duke Nukem 64?

@Commando

Wow You just hit me with that one Turok...I loved the original one on N64 definitely should have added that

And Portal is another game that caught me off guard I did'nt think I would like it but I was instantly hooked from the time I played it...

As you can tell FPS are my favorite genre of videogames but I also play other genres of videogames also :)

It was pretty much the same...I remember back in the day I had a gaming magazine talking about Duke 64, said it was basically the same game, but the 64 verison had some little differences, didnt remember what they were though...

to OPs question;

i've already made my top 5 but i'll take out Bioshock and replace it with Timesplitters, can't beileve I forgot about that brilliant game...so much fun...

 Right on.  Yeah, it's just a shame that they never did make another title that stood up to the glory of the original.  the comic book it's based off of was badass too.

1) Goldeneye - it's the reason we even have games like Halo.
2) Halo 3 - the pinnacle of the Halo series and it perfected what Goldeneye started
3) CoD4 - easily the most innovative of the series and my personal fav
4) Soldier of Fortune 2 - fantastic multiplayer. Maybe the most underrated shooter of all time
5) Turok (the original) - blew my F'ing mind and dinosaurs are awesome!

Can't really make a definitive list, but CS: Source, Battlefield 2, and Goldeneye would all be on there. Probably FEAR as well.

Tbh, I never got very far into Half-life 2. >_>

Really can't believe anyone who's played HL2 would leave it off this list.

1) Counter Strike 1.3 - 1.6
2) Front Line Force (HL mod)

As much as I'd like to come up with five of the best FPS games ever, I cannot extend the list past #1. I am a huge Zelda fan but there is not a single Zelda game that can compare with this. I consider this the single greatest game ever (except for Tetris Attack (maybe)).

This game single-handedly changed how I look at and play games. This is the game that changed video games from a hobby to a sport for me. I can attribute my current lack of interest in long games (20+ hours) to this title. This game changed gaming so that I play in short 15-20 minute sessions and each time get better. No more rigorous 60 campaigns to finally "beat" the game. You sat down, played, got better, walked away and did it again later.

Quake III Arena (PC)

Load this game up and get into the online community in 1v1, TDM, and CTF and you will find the ultimate game. So many mods made for that game simply rocked. (OSP, Freeze Tag and CPM are the best) Going to Quakecon for a four day gaming party totally rocked both times I went (2002 and 2003).

I used to love console gaming from 1989 all the way through 2000. It was in the end of 2000 that I really picked up Q3 and console gaming just isn't the same anymore. I have so many games that I haven't finished because I just get bored of them. I want to sit down for an hour and play three or four full games and improve my skill and then quit until next time.

Quake III Arena is the single greatest game ever, let alone FPS, and I cannot even think of tarnishing it by including a number two through five. They simply don't exist. Not once you play this game in the truest sense.

Any true hardcore FPS fan will always list Q3 arena in their top 5.

Unfortunately for me, I'm just not that good at it.  It requires more skill than any other game I know.
