Your understanding of the battle system is quite shocking.
Also "It's either turned-based or the worst non-turned-based" makes no sense, even more so because it is not turn based.
Each player character as well as enemies get an attack bar which constantly fills and empties, when the bar fills up, you/enemy attack, then it empties (recharges attack) then fills again, and so on. You don't need wait for the enemy to attack before you fight back, the enemy doesn't need wait for you. That isn't turn based. |
I looked at your game history and only saw that you played X and XII so your understanding is not quite as shocking.
Both have bars, yet you do not need to wait. That is called Active Time Battle. When you have to wait and the enemy needs to wait that is the same thing pretty much except it is referred to as "Wait" instead of active. Some if not many games (Ex: Chrono Trigger) allow you to switch between the two.
You would know this if you played Final Fantasy since its birth.
I always though people who talk about JRPGs would know the difference between "Active" and "Wait" turn-based systems.
Edit - Just had to add this in.
The only major difference between FFXII "active" turn-based system and say "Active" turn-based in a game like Chrono Trigger is that you can move your characters around instead of having them in 1 position.

You mean just like in FFVII, VIII, IX, X-2 and so on?

...because my game collection on this forum is definately complete. I haven't even added a single NES game let alone filled in the other consoles fully.
Your understanding is also flawed. Try to relable something doesn't change what it is. |
Then why don't you explain what makes X-2 turned-based and XII not? Because really the only difference is that you can move around, and it's a lot slower in XII.
FFXII battle system was real-time, not action nor turn-based. It´s dynamic is based on each character acting automatically. You could play it turn-based via pausing, but that was really bad. I didn´t like it personally for a FF title, because it was too automated, incomplete and atypical for a FF title. In FF you´re supposed to control 100% every party member.
FFXIII will have a dynamic turn-based system where you input commands for every unit, an upgrade of the ATB. Of course, SE could pull real-time, that would make FFXIII the first real-time (dynamic) turn-based RPG that I know

Relabel?
It has been that way for over 15 years! Probably 20ish actually.
Who knows more about these systems? The people who made them and named them or you?
I know for a fact it is not you.

You just noticed they are horrible? All FF characters not designed by Amano are crap. You can thank "belts & zippers" Nomura for that.

Doesn't Amano still do all the concept arts for the characters, and Nomura just makes them fit better in with the style of the game?
