Hmm... Let's check, how bad is the Ps3 doing?

60k is the average over the last 2 weeks.

http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=PS3&reg1=America&cons2=PS3&reg2=America&cons3=PS3&reg3=America&start=39453&end=39852

So... Except for the early high sales in 08, the GTA IV boost, the MGS 4 boost, and christmas, this is the level it has been at since the start of 08? I never would have guessed...

But really, that there isn't a good measurement.

Let's rather take the average sales in 08, for the 10 first months of January.

Total sales: 2742K

Number of weeks: 42

Average weekly: 65K

Whoa! No way! The Ps3 has been at these levels for a year?

Yeah, they have. Has anyone been paying attention? These are the levels the Ps3 is at in Americas.

Considering the lack of new releases, it's actually doing rather well. Not well, but somewhat well. Well.

lol Wii.

Nice DS.

Good 360.

Ouch PS3 and PSP.

Wii drops over 80K (over 25%)

DS drops over 80K (over 33%)

Ps3 drops less than 10K

And you say ouch Ps3?

That's just ridiculous.

And... Yeah, I know what you're going to say

"The Ps3 numbers are still horrible".

Well, everybody knows. The only thing you're doing is salting the wound. There's absolutely no reason to do it.

He is prolly comparing it to the sales from the same time period last year, which show the obvious results.

Why would he? The situation has changed completely since then, and he couldn't possibly be surprised by this... After all, he has posted the same thing in all of these threads since the new year...

True, the situation has changed. The ps3 is selling less this January than it did last January. And the sales have been flat and will only continue to decline unless something major happens. And that is not a pricecut because MS can pricecut at anytime sony does.

Maybe with the Valhalla model but not now

Did Nintendo increase production? I am curious due to the high sales and the large inventory sitting on store shelves. (I have never seen so many Wiis in store as I have over the last 2 weeks. Example: My local bestbuy had 24 of them sitting on the floor on Friday. I did not count them on Saturday, but the stack looked the same. Gamestop had a stack of Wiis on Saturday with a sign that said Wii in stock. They had a stack last week with a sign like that also. I have never seen that at Gamestop before. Walmart and target both had Wiis in their display. Couldn't count how many since they keep them in the bottom of the locked game cases.)

Personally I think the numbers are being reported as sale through when, currently, they are not.

Anecdotes much?

Just a bit. I know it is not necessarly the same everywhere, but it does not change the fact that I can go to any random retailer (where I am that is) and pick up a second Wii. Would have been much easier than buying one from a back ally dealer who bought 10 of them to profit in 07. I live in a city of 120000 that also acts as the main shoping area for numerous small towns in the area. A total of around 150000 to 200000 would likely be the potential market here. Maybe we have just reached our saturation point for the Wii.

Saturation point doesn't mean there is stock, it means they are no sales; hardly the case. Apparently not everyone knows or can find them so readily since they are still going for $300-350 on Ebay.

wat.

You can't expect the PS3 to lose that much. The Wii has a lot more to lose.

Besides, why are you targetting only me? You should do that for everyone else.

Because he felt like it. Also PSP sales are pretty good considering it's been out for about 5 years and it has one compelling game every couple months or so. And the Wii had a greater percentage drop too, if that counts for anything. The 360 isn't actually doing that amazingly considering that America is its strongest market and that it's supposedly at a mass market price now.

PS3 dropped the least from last week!

Because you are the only one who is repeating it. Well, at the time I posted it at least (perhaps with the exception of Smoked, but as he had the feeling I was stalking/offending him, we decided that I would stop replying to his posts.

And yes, I can expect the Ps3 to lose by that much, as I'm not shocked by the same thing every week.

As a matter of fact, the Ps3 was the machine that did best compared to my expectations. Followed by the PsP.

MS has more money and resources than Sony. They can afford another price drop becauce their company can afford to take a few more losses to make sure Sony gets no benifit. This is how Microsoft has worked in every industry it is in.

My area may be one extreme. Just as people paying 300 to 350 on ebay (when they have been in stock on amazon and bestbuy.com go figure) may be the other. I just have a feeling that the true state of the Wii is somewhere in between. Nice steady sales, still highest of the consoles. This is the reason I asked about increased production in the first post. Nintendo could be producing twice as many Wiis as say 6 months ago. The demand is still high and that could account for such high sales numbers with units still sitting at retail. If they have not, then there could be a steady overtracking on the Wii with an assumption of near sale through.

Were the numbers shown for sold about 1 million higher that the total nintendo gave as shipped a few weeks ago? When dealing with such high sales I would be willing to bet that tracking the Wii/DS on a weekly basis is more like tracking software than hardware. There is probably a greater margin for error (up and down) than with the ps3 and 360.

Since you can readily get them and they are apparently rare in other places.  Buy a bunch up and sell them on EBay.  You can apparently get about at least a $50 profit on each one.

No one said 360 sales are amazing.. everyone said its "good", and I think its because its doing better YoY. But I'll admit it isn't saying much when last year the 360 only sold a crappy 77k..

Also, the PSP has been out for less then 4 years.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable

I believe the only shining point for the PSP is Japan. They love their handhelds. In the US and Europe however the sales are pretty darn low. PSP price cut? Nah, they'll just release another model :P

PS3 April price cut can't come soon enough ;)

Wii Sales down I'm guessing due to stock *shrugs* Same for DS.

It's just that simple.
