Forums - Sony - Killzowned Engine to bring in more PS3 Exclusives!

http://www.thegameraccess.com/2009/02/killzone-2-to-bring-in-more-exclusives/

The highly anticipated first-person shooter, Killzone 2, is inching its way towards release on February 27, but there is much more to look forward to than just the game.

At E3 2005, Sony and Guerilla Games unveiled the Killzone 2 trailer and announced that the final game will match the visuals of this trailer. At this time, no one even thought it was possible and has doubted Guerilla could pull this game off on the PlayStation 3. Now we are in 2009 and the demo has been released. The demo looks incredible and almost matches the E3 2005 trailer, but remember that this is the demo and the final build will look better.

Killzone 2 has been in development for around four years now and is without a doubt the best looking game to date. Guerilla Games, developers of Killzone 2, have went the extra mile and have spent a large amount of time and effort producing an engine that looks gorgeous and works well. This title clearly shows what happens when you take the time to produce a quality game instead of releasing a new one every year. Not only will this engine benefit Guerilla Games with Killzone 2, it will also benefit developers that use this engine and the future games that they produce.

This is the reason why I feel more developers might come over to the PlayStation 3 to use this engine. Guerilla is not going to allow just anyone to use their engine that they have worked on for many years now. Most likely, the engine will stay with the PlayStation 3, meaning that any developer that decides to use this engine must keep that title exclusive to the PlayStation 3. Once Killzone 2 has been released and everyone has had their chance to get their hands on it, look for a lot of developers to come to Guerilla Games interested in the engine. This would lead to more exclusives for the PlayStation 3 and much more titles of this visual quality.

This is pretty awesome! I would love to see new games using this graphical and technological powerhouse.

Please leave a comment naming what title you would like to see use the Killzone 2 engine.

I guess we'll see?? Seems like the only people likely to use the "Killzowned" engine, are high budget developers that don't already have reliable engines to use. That rules out EA and pretty much all the multi-plat titles obviously. I imagine if a developer really wanted to make a great looking game, without spending a fortune, they will likely go the route of the Unreal Engine given it is also a graphical power house, is much more commonly used, costs less, and will be available for multiplat titles.

If they want to make the engine proprietary to the PS3, there will not be many developers using it at all. The money is with multi-platform titles and the Wii/360 right now when it comes to software. Developers that are not first party to Sony would be foolish to use this engine and shut off the larger selling markets.

The rumored Syphon Filter 5 would look excellent with this engine.

@CGI
You speak nothing but the truth.

@Nightsurge
obviously if you are going for MP development this would not be the engine to use. Yet the KZ engine means that developers can no longer whine about struggles of PS3 development due to UE or other like it not being compatible. KZ engine will probably allow the integration of other engines(most do anyway). It also means quicker development times.

This will be ushering in a slew of new exclusives. If not from 3rd party, then from 1st for sure(and after seeing what Sony's 1st party can do you dont really need 3rd).

Is there any evidence at all that other developers will use the Killzone 2 engine? Is the engine flexible and documented enough to be easily adopted by other developers?

An engine needs more than good graphics to be sold to other developers. There are tons of games with great graphics whose engines never got reused.

The URE3 isnt that great. Unreal tournament sucked. As for the money, games like KZ2 sell consoles. The more games like this, the more user base the PS3 gets and the more the dev will make.

This is exactly why M$ is hurting our industry though. They release a sub-par console that is capable of very good graphics and keep the developers from pushing there games due to its inefficiencies. With just the PS3 and Wii, the devs would be able to focus on the PS3 and make amazing games. As is stands now, they either need to make there game on the PS3 to the specs they desire and port to 360, leaving content behind or offering DLC or they need to make it on both at the same time and gimp the PS3 version once they reach there limits on the 360. Exclusive is where its at on the PS3 right now. We are a lot pickier when it comes to our game purchases because we are probably an older crowd. It seems to me that the 360 and Wii have a ton of shovel ware that gets eaten up. Not so on the PS3 front.

While Resistance 2 lived by hypetrain and failed in the end, Guerilla has silently let people talk what they want and made impossible possible.

But I don't remember that Unreal Engine was used only for XBox 360,when Gears of war 1 came.

Take my love, take my land..

Would like to see the new Doom game use this. Maybe even Duke Nukem... if we ever see it.

Also a good game for this engine would be "Alien Vs Predator 3" if we're ever that lucky

Is this a joke thread ??
