Usually when someone starts talking about they're actually just revealing they're a delusional fanboy.

If system sellers actually existed the Gamecube would have been on top last gen since it had some of the best games of last gen.

True, the rare game does exist that actually does something significant, but for the most part system sellers don't really exist and just a tool fanboys use for arguing what game is or is going to be the best.

So what do you say to the explosion of the DS after Nintendogs and Brain Training??

Also the GameCube didn't have system sellers - name a game that should have been a system seller on gamecube.

Resident Evil 4.

It sold what 1.5 million?, wasn't exclusive and came very late into the GameCube's life

So in short.. No

Lets see--

Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2
SUper Mario Sunshine
Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door
Mario Kart: Double Dash
The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker
Resident Evil 4
Eternal Darkness
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader
Pikmin
Pikmin 2

All of those are considered to be some of the best in their genre, beyond excellent games.  Ignore sells at the moment because the Gamecube just didn't have a huge install base.  If the term system seller were actually true, then at least one of those games should have pushed the Gamecube at least ahead of the XBox yet somehow it didn't.

And like I said, rare games like Nintendogs and Halo 3 exist and those could be considered the true system sellers, but those type of gems don't come around that often.  The way system seller gets thrown around now, any of those above games should be system sellers and we all know they aren't.

Those awesome GCN games didn't sell more GCNs because it was "cool" to hate on Nintendo a few years back.

@ Goddog: This line of thinking is what seperates integrated software and hardware companies (Apple and Nintendo) from non-intergrated (Microsoft and Sony).

It's also a line of thinking that is being disrupted right now and it's the very reason why Nintendo is going to continue to do well as the other companies see the Wii's success coming from it's motion controls. Guess what! It's not.

An integrated company builds their products thinking about both software and hardware. The nunchuk was born because Retro Studios said they they could not build a Metroid Prime game with only the Wii Remote. The iPod and iPhone was always about the software as much as it was about the hardware and they play off each other.

Non-integrated, a great example is Sony. They built the PS3 as being the best console they could make and then dumped it onto the software teams and said 'make games for it'.

I don't think you're thinking about this very well and if you represent either Microsoft or Sony's thoughts - Then that particular companies next console is doomed to fail

I never said one was better then the other. both can coexist. personally i think it depends on preference if you had not gathered from the avatar im an apple fanboy. but i do not think its the only approach, just the one nintendo took this gen.

MS and sony went a different way.

These are all "official" system sellers, the definition being a game so good or revolutionary that a significant number of people who did not plan to buy a certain console end up buying that console based on that one game -

Wii - Wii Fit (won't include Wii Sports as it was bundled although it obviously did help sales of the console)

PS3 - does not have one yet

360 - does not have one yet

DS - Nintendogs, New Super Mario Bros., Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day

PSP - does not have one yet

Xbox - Halo

Gamecube - did not have one

Dreamcast - did not have one

PS2 - Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo 3

N64 - Mario 64, Goldeneye, Ocarina Of Time

Saturn - did not have one

Playstation - Tombraider, Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil

SNES - Super Mario World, Mario Kart, Donkey Kong Country

Megadrive - Sonic The Hedgehog

Just a few corrections in my opinion.

absolutely, it's all about opinions....although I am surprised you removed Mario Kart and Tombraider (although I am posting from a UK perspective where Tombraider was a huge cultural influence on the playstation at the time wheras it might not have been such a big deal in other countries).
