I've heard this term be used a lot in this forum, but, what do you think is actually a "system seller"?

Wii sport, baby, it's definitely helped make the wii, what it is today. MGS4,Halo 3 and Brawl, types of games, increase sales sure, but it's not increases enough to call it, "system seller"

A game that will convince a group of people who are into a certain type of game to buy your system?

wii sports for wii, gears of war for 360 and for PS3 MGS4. all of this games have being and important driving force behind the succes of the consoles.

Games that are so big that alot of people buy the console for them.

Super Mario Bros, Pokemon, Nintendogs, Brain Age, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Halo, GT are all system sellers.

Two things:

1. A game which has an unusual system sales spike around release (MGS4, Halo 3)

2. A game that continues to have strong sales months after release.

Usually when someone starts talking about they're actually just revealing they're a delusional fanboy.

If system sellers actually existed the Gamecube would have been on top last gen since it had some of the best games of last gen.

True, the rare game does exist that actually does something significant, but for the most part system sellers don't really exist and just a tool fanboys use for arguing what game is or is going to be the best.

think the first halo halo:ce on the xbox until it started getting other games around when xboxlive started .... that game kept the xbox alive .... that is a system seller.... think FFVII a game which put a genera and a console on the map.

most of the time the have to be exclusives to qualify, and have such a pent up demand/hype for the game that its launch effects sales for months afterwards. honestly I dont think we have really had one this gen yet.... wii sports does not sell the wii, motion controls sell the wii.

honestly the wii has turned the concept on its head it has no system sellers. the wii is a software seller for nintendo
