I don't think MS will ever release a Blu-ray 'add-on'. They'll be too weary of a cost analysis against the PS3 and a public perception that further illustrates that Sony gives you more for less.

However, I can foresee them entertaining the idea of incorporating an internal player (in a new sku) should their lead over the PS3 to suddenly fall into jeopardy. A logical analysis of increased PS3 sales at a greater price comparatively would lead to the conclusion that the included BD factors as the extra buying appeal.

With the lead being what it is though (all time high) this will be the furthest thing from their minds.

And how will all the old games play on that new 360 sku?

You do know 99% of BR players can read DVDs.

im not going to get a blu ray even if it does come out for the xbox,im waiting for green ray.that will show sony.and i dont think that they will release one any ways,if anything happens toshiba will probably release one for it like they did 4 the hd dvd.if toshiba wanted to i dont think M$ would stop them

Hell no, it would be freakin' expensive, and Blu-Ray won't really be important until next gen if things continue the way they do. Well, not in America. If you are in the minority who wants to pay 20+ dollars for your movies, you can afford to buy a separate Blu-ray player. MS will have to do something though when the next cycle of consoles come around. Probably just stay the course, while innovating in their controller and Hardware. But alas, MS does not know how to innovate, so anything (but innovating) is possible.

I could see why sony would want this though. They are taking on lost profit opportunities, and Blu-Ray isn't coming along quite as fast as they have hoped. Making it affordable for their rivals large userbase would help, but who knows how much. Two much tension between the two, but this crisis could force them to team-up.
Actually, I hope the nexbox has DLable games. MS would have to pay for kiosks to be put in stores where people could take their detachable harddrive to get them though. For those with internet though, all you would have to do is browse the marketplace. I think it might be too soon though.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

BR is the new betamax

Not really. If big movie releases like Iron Man sell more BluRays than the DVDs, I'd say that's a pretty big accomplishment.

Man, you're misinformed. Blu-ray sales only total about 20% of all home media formats.

Since there are only two home media formats in use, we know that other 80% is DVD.

Yes, it beat DVD in some retailers, but that doesn't mean it sold more than DVD period.

@thetonestar

quit lying to yourself dude, blu-ray is no betamax. Go buy a blu-ray player than we'll talk. Adoption takes time, we are only in the early adoption stage right now. DVD took over 3 years to gain significant marketshare.

I know for people who have the money, blu-ray is the only option. My two brothers, mom and dad, AND hell my grandparents all got a blu-ray player for christmas and couldn't be happier. DVDs were once just as "expensive".

Fact: Earthbound is the greatest game ever made

Blue ray is the last thing people think of in a recession going on a depression. Dvd upscale is good enough for 99.9 of people

The best comment for the current situation, indeed.

not really, entertainment is paramount for an escape from an individual's struggles.  You need the best, not just good enough. For only 75-100 dollars more you get a blu-ray player.

lol win the format war hu ???? that's about like saying PS or XB is winning.... yeah competing for the 2nd place lol.... Wii is winning... DVD is still 1st and trust me will be for a will in physical support.... and trust me their is absolutely no future for such support in the form of a really fragile unreliable smal capacity device such as that.... NONE what so ever except for collectors maybe like for vyniles now a day..... VOD is the future... and % years before it becomes standard ???? are you kidding me ??? it took almost less than 10 years for internet to be a standard.... the jump to streaming and VOD and DL is already at full speed on the geek and underground/illegal market.... in 5 years my grand ma will be watching casablanca on her cellphone trust me
