Not too surprising although I'm sorry for the job loss. The really hadn't done all that well this generation. Their only two "hits" were Game Party on the Wii (1.9M) and Touchmaster on the DS (1.4m). They had a total of 2 Wii, 3 DS and 1 XBox 360 game to break 500K, none of them particually memorable.

Then again, they hadn't ever done too well. Going back to the N64 they only had 6 games break a million and their biggest hit was Mortal Kombat Trilogy on the PS (2.8M). When Game Party is your third biggest hit ever, maybe the gaming world is passing you by.

MK vs DC was pretty memorable dude... Its one of the better fighting games last year. Unreal Tournament 3 and Stranglehold were great too.

But I agree...too much other garbage like TNA wrestling and Blacksite...

You can say about Mirror's Edge what you want, but the graphics were really good.

Don't know about Battlefield Heroes, but Bad Company was a great game.
The first BF with a nice singleplayer campaign and of course awesome multiplayer

So it's awesome that they gimped the over 100 player allowed in the PC versions of Battlefield to just 24 in Bad Company??!!

Bad Company is different from the previous BF games, so you can't come up with "PC version". It does have the same name, but it plays different. They've also changed the multiplayer mode, so it's not comparable. It works more than great.

Great perhaps but not great sellers, for example, according to our site anyway, Unreal Tournament III just barely scraped together 1M in the PS3 and box360 combined, MK vs DC, not much better.

These guys revolutionized arcade gaming :(
So no more Mortal Kombat, Rampage, or Gauntlet?

Only one thing to say:

FATALITY

Midway shares fell 10 cents, or 40 percent, to 15 cents in morning trading.

Wow. That really says it all, doesn't it?

Sad, but hardly unexpected. We all saw this coming a mile away, especially after the Stranglehold disaster last year. I feel bad for the employees who will be out of work. I don't feel bad seeing a company disappear that hadn't produced an innovative new idea in something like a decade.

PS Mortal Kombat was never very good in the first place. Its whole appeal was throwing lots of gore on the screen, and once everyone else started doing that too, there wasn't a whole lot Midway could do.

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)

Battlefield 2 on the 360 I believe only had 16 players simultaneous.  So, 24 people in Bad Company is actually an upgrade.  Anyhow, Bad Company was DICE's attempt to beef up the single player play in their Battlefield series.  I happened to think they succeeded there.  I enjoyed the game, and the characters.  I didn't even play it multiplayer.  But the $20 new I picked it up for while it was on sale, was worth it.

Actually, with it being bankrupcy protection (chapter 11) and not for liquidation (Chapter 7) and with how low their stock was trading before trading was suspended it would (almost) be worthwhile to invest a small sum of money ($50 to $100) in case they successfully restructured or were bought out by another company ... An example of a videogame company that has successfully come out of Chapter 11 is Majesco, and (if things continue to go well for Majesco) over the next several years they will outperform most other gaming companies because of how undervalued they currently are.
