So there's a God of War boss but nothing from shadow of the colossus? The last three had me ripping my hair out, and the final one was freaking nuts.

CONTRA 3, on easy mode

Hardest game ever. I would say hard mode is ever harder to beat, but I don't belive anyone has ever actually finished the game on that setting so I can't speak for it

Shadow of the Colossus had no tough bosses. All it had were hard to figure out puzzles on how to beat them. The hardest part of that game is finding the colossus.

I second Contra 3. On hard mode, Falcon Motherbrain or the Big Android are next to impossible. 

 

Mizar on Jet force Jemini is hard as nails too.

MK3... Shao Kahn its a gamble. The AI can be easy then teeth gritting cheesy MGS... Pyscho Mantis, I died so much the game told me to switch controllers

Another Devil May Cry 3 one is fighting the sucubi woman boss at the end of the 9th or 10th level...Very difficult

Agreed, this list should be based on skill.  Any leveling system that makes your character more powerful disqualifies it.  Yeah, I could have beaten Frankenstein in Castlevania 1 if I just beat down enough skeletons to reach lvl 99 . . .
