I don't think Halo 3 will move as many consoles as Halo 2 did. There are several reasons for this:
(1) There have already been many top FPS games on the 360.
(2) The 360, as you mentioned, is far, far more expensive than the original Xbox was during Halo 2's release.
(3) The 360 has a lot of negative publicity right now.
As people have pointed out, don't expect Halo 3 to work a miracle and move an unprecidented number of units (the number required to catch the Wii). More realistically, it will move some 360s but it won't move any huge impressive number of units unless Microsoft comes out with some sort of great deal (similar to their $100 rebate last Christmas).
