Highly possible. If they had integrated more chat functions into Mario Kart Wii, that was basically a lobby. Definitely something that they could do with friended features, and something they would probably shoot for.
It would really make sense, anyway. I prefer to shoot the breeze between matches than during matches.

it better have a lobby. In FPS online now days a lobby is almost a requirement. I know i would play games alot less with no lobby it just makes it much more fluid and fun
