Forums - Gaming - Reviews - Should Graphics Effect The Score?

of course, graphics are important, but much more is the art.

yes, but only on a relative matter. for instance if a game is the best looking wii game, but when compared to a PS3 game looks like crap, it deserves a 10 on graphics, since its the best looking game in their console.

Yes it matters, yes it's important, but a game won't be good if it hasn't good gameplay.

yes, however

Graphics should not be judged by raw polycount, texture fill and so on. Instead the graphics should be judged based on how well they convey the game world. Reviewers do and often judge by texture fill, polycount, draw distance... In a game where distance is more critical to atmosphere Cursed Mountain, Flight Simulators, City scapes... then of course games should recieve negative values if they fail to deliver that.

These days though often reviewers weigh that graphics are 3 to 1 favour. They are willing to overlook simple graphics for art style, but will never overlook bad graphics.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

NO! Miner Dig Deep should get a 10 I tell you, eventhough it looks like an artistically talented third grader did the artwork!

Ok, now I got that out of the way, a VIDEO game should score points for art direction and technical capabilities.

No, lets go back to amiga

I'd say graphics should count for about half a point.

Unless the graphics are so poor they make playing the game more difficult.

Heck, music and sound is more important then graphics.

Lets say we review girls

looks wont matter?

As for graphics i like them as real and clear as possible

What do you do with your videogames?

It's long past the point of where someone should be looking for the same thing out of a game... I mean there's the internet for that sorta stuff.

I mean, i could just as eaisly say

"Lets say we review food

Taste won't matter?"

I think graphics should be included in a review, but that they are only one part of the presentation in total which also includes storyline and music. I like VGC's system of having this presentation be mentioned along side value, and gameplay. This means that graphics is a part of the score, but not a large part.
