What's your favorite genre? (Part 2)

Shooter 438 35.67%

Platformer 431 35.10%

Racer 95 7.74%

Rhythm games 19 1.55%

Simulation 33 2.69%

Strategy 212 17.26%

Total:1,228

Well the results of week one are pretty unanimous....at least for the top two contenders.  Action/Adventure and RPG took the top spots respectively...which shouldn't surprise anyone.  Fighter just managed to edge out the Sports, with Flight Sim and Puzzle coming in just behind.

This week we'll finish off the genres.  Hopefully those genres that you felt were missing in last week's poll will be present this time around.  If not...I'm sure you'll never let me heard the end of it .

So how are you feeling this week?

Do you love the Shooter genre (First or Third-Person), or do you prefer a nice race around a track or through a boggy swamp (sim or arcade Racer)?  Maybe you've got a thing for pretending your someone else and living out their daily habits (cooking, cleaning, urinating....or building roller coaster parks) and can't get enough of the Simulation genre.  Anyone out there wish they were a rockstar?  If so, maybe you've got a bit of a thing for Rhythm games and think you're going to be the next Yngwie Malmsteem of Guitar Hero...or this guy.  Or maybe your roots go back to the old-school of Donkey Kong and Mario....or spyro and Jak...depending on how old you are (isn't there an old man's club here on VGC?) and you prefer jumping from ridiculously placed platform to ridiculously placed platform, consuming whatever comes across your path in the hopes that it makes you get bigger, jump further, or at least see a few trippy tracers.  Or maybe the darkhorse in this competition will be none other than the Strategy genre; after all, isn't Starcraft the national sport of South Korea.  With that kind of star power there's no telling how this race will end.

So where do you stand?

For me, Survival Horror will ALWAYS be my favorite genre :)

Ok...there's a legitimate missing genre.  Woops.  Although I hope it can dovetail into action/adventure...but that's just probably wishful thinking.  Then again....how many Survival Horror games can you think of?

With Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Country, Banjo-Kazooie, Ratchet & Clank, MegaMan, Rayman, Klonoa, and many other great franchises, Platforming is a genre unlike any other.
