SE's strategy is bad, we all know it.

Most of their handheld games are remakes or ports (they do get some good spin-offs). They are milking the Final Fantasy brand (it won't last forever). The most popular console gets some stupid spin-offs (not counting DQ X), and the few new games they have are 360 exclusives.

They had healthy sales last quarter. Maybe they had dissapointing sales in the west?
Still, their fiscal year will be fine if DQ IX will still release in march, they'll make huge profits. The next one will be very good as well beacause of FF XIII's Japanese release. Even the fiscal year after that will be good, Final Fantasy XIII will be released in the west. And who knows, the year after that Dragon Quest X will be released in Japan.

This is hilarious here... Does anyone of you understand something about economics? The only thing mentioned in the OP is that the stock price was on a low last week. There is no direct relation between profits and stock prices.

Stock prices are highly psychological. Of course they should actually signify the value of an enterprise, but they do contain expectations, fears and personal opinions too.

Of course we don't know why S-E has delayed it's earnings report, and maybe they will show bad numbers then. But I doubt that they made a loss last year, and if they did, I'm sure they are intelligent enough not to think that this was because they "stabbed Sony in the back", and concentrate on handhelds and the Wii in future.

I'm gonna guess you think of Square because it's just as good as their PS1/SNES games.

It's too late now. It would make a difference only if it was a day one release on both consoles.

You people still read GS news? They are one the worst gaming sites when its for news, especially from Japan. Not only are they always late, but they also gather a limited amount of information (compared to others) so their conclusions (rather insinuations or what readers deduce) are far from correct.

It´s true that SE´s sales have halved this fiscal year in Japan, but they also rose in the West.

SE sacrificed too much to try and penetrate the western world with 360 exclusives. There are other factors like delays and such that hurt them but going 360 exclusive doesn't make much sense. Go multiplat with the PS360 if you want to penetrate the western world of HD consoles. Go Wii exclusive if you want sales anywhere, or remain PS3 exclusive if you want to sell in Japan, but don't go 360 exclusive. There's not much demand for their product on the 360 fanbase or in the west. Don't ignore your bread and butter to reach some sort of market share goal in the western world.

THis is surprising considering how well final fantasy 4, chrono trigger, dissidia, have all done.

final fantasy 13 should be for ps3 and wii. if they cancel the xbox version and decide to make it for wii instead, that would be a smart decision. but yet again, there's another person/company behind this demise.

This. Should have focused more on the wii to make money. I bet you they would not have had all these skyrocketing development costs that outweigh all the money they made on the remakes. FFXIIIv should have gone to wii.

Edit: To all the Sony fanboys stating that they should have developed for ps3....its not helping out the rest of the companies that did mostly hd development, why would it help out SE any differently?
