Speaking to T3, a Sony rep made a statement that discourages the thought of expecting a PlayStation 4 anytime soon.

"PS2 was still going strong after eight years, and with the power the Cell processor provides, not to mention the fact that PS3 is inherently future-proof, we see the PS3 sales curve far outlasting that of PS2."

The PCs have already surpassed the PS3 capabilities for several months now. Another year and you will be able to build one that's more powerful for the same price. Static technology is NEVER future proof.

Well, quite a bold statement about sales. PS3 wont sell what the PS2 did but it could get close.

Something tells me this guy is going to have a little big of egg on his face in a few years time.

PS2 wasn't future-proof because of its superior processor (it was inferior).
It was shown in the last 7 generations, that superior graphical power was not major advantage for any console.

PS1-2 were simply popular. So popular, that PS2 sells even now.
There is no hidden "sony magic" that makes their consoles last longer, it is the natural process that always the most popular console can be sold for the longest time.

PS3 is not popular, its sales are declining EVEN NOW! It is logical to expect that it will be the first one to disappear.

PS2 has reportedly sold  140 million consoles world wide in 9 years. I will be very surprised if PS3 sells 70 million consoles ltd.

PS2 had a lot of third party exclusives due to its monopoly of last console generation and it had a year or two head start over its competition. PS3 fans to even believe PS3 sales will match PS2 sales is a joke.

A generation on a PS3 only has its first party exclusive titles remains and most of the Sony third party titles (99%) are now multi-platform and sell much better on the XBox 360.

PS3 is far from future proof and it will be lucky to last 7 or 8 years. Only the market leading console of any given generation lasts 10 years or longer.

People wanted the ps2 so it lasted and they dont want the ps3 so it wont last.

The "power of the cell" comment made me laugh, are they still pushing that line.
