Forums - Sony - What is so special about Killzone 2?

Halo 3 has a single player campaign, 2 player local co-op play, 4 player live co-op play, a variety of multiplayer styles from death matches to zombie style games to paintball to massive maps with multiple vehicles, the ability to make movies from your videos (and also thus study player tactics and strategy making the gameplay ever evolving and highly sophisticated, the ability to take ingame photos, web integration allowing you to see your ingame statistics, an ever evolving amount of playlists that keep the game fresh, new maps are made for it all the time, forge (which allows you to change the placement of pretty much everything in every ma), extremely well balanced gameplay and weapons and a massive community of players. Plus halo has a very bright and vibrant art style.

You may not like halo 3 but it is a special game because it does literally everything and is still supremely balance and fun to play. Just because you don't personally like something doesn't mean its actually bad.

If you don't like Killzone 2 then don't buy it simple as . As for a significant percentage of the playstation community , we do like it and we will buy it.

What's so special about ?...

Halo 3
Gears Of War
Fable 2

The question can be spun both ways , value is subjective and questioning the value of a game is either ignorant or fanboy motivated unless it's clearly shovelware, I don't care if you own both consoles doesn't stop your from being deluded.

Excellent post.

What's special about Killzone 2 for me?

Well, nothing. I haven't played the game or demo to make a judgement on that. But i'll be buying this game because it looks to be the first truly epic FPS exclusive on the PS3 (Resistance as a series is good, but it's just that, Good.).

You've just proven my point by trying to counter argue me.

I created a UK account, downloaded the demo, and played through it twice.  From all the initial reviews and hype, I was expecting a religious experience both graphically and gameplay-wise.  As the old lady in the Wendy's commercial said, "Where's the beef?"?

The graphics are top notch, no doubt, but I honestly don't find them overall any better than MGS4 and Gears 2.  The physics are certainly very well done and I'd say that KZ2 certainly has a lock on "realism" from a physics standpoint, but the graphics are not what I had hoped for.  Right at the beginning, for example, the water is less than impressive as you cross that little stream.  I think Bioshock had better water scenes.  There are some terrible textures in places if you stop and look at stuff that is both close and far.

I was apalled to see the cliche exploding barrells always "just in the right place".  That has gotten really old.  I would also have liked to see a bit of variety in bad guys.  All the same dudes.  The demo AI isn't "smart" IMO, either.  I've read they are clever but they just seem like more cannon fodder most of the time.  Yeah, they duck, but they also pop their head up and get blasted, too.

I was amped up about the game after all the hype but after having played the demo, I'm going to wait for it to come out and read some later reviews.  All the 10s the game has gotten (as well as other games this gen) are highly misleading as the game, in my opinion, a bit uninspired, and cliche.

In the end, it does look like a polished version of COD and that isn't a bad thing.  Based on the demo, however, it isn't the defining game of this generation or of this genre.

I'm sure my post will be labeled blasphemy.  Oh well.  Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and in this case, most will think mine sucks.  Sobeit.

BTW, I played the first round on my 1080P 42" Sharp Aquos LCD and my second round on my Sharp DLP projector.

The AI supresses you and flanks you.. that's pretty smart if you ask me. They also run at you if youre a meter away and runs at them with the knife XD shit man.. i'd run to. Crasy. (or they melee.. depends)

Again, you have to concider it's 5 mins of a 10 hour game with a aparently very deep multiplayer. That's probably why it's gotten it's 10s.

Why do you enter the thread when you haven't played the game ? stop trolling

Wat. I'm assuming most were pc gamers aswel like me. Might not be the case, but Halo isn't exacly the high point of fps gaming. Atleast if you are able to play it on a pc. I've only played the first, but that was enough to know that.. it wasn't anything special. It did make console fps popular though. I'll give it that.

Yes, lets all judge the game based on a five minute demo. No multiplayer, no bosses, no set pieces, no cutscenes and three guns. Nice representation there.

To be fair, it was around eight minutes, and there was one cutscene.

But you're right. One cutscene, no set pieces, no multi, no bosses, two very similar guns and another gun which you get around one in three times.

You can, of course, have an opinion on the demo, but remember that a demo never represents a full game. Look at BioShock. Look at Valkyria Chronicles. Most people didn't like those demos (I did) and loved the full games.

You also have the other end, like TFU, which had an awesome demo, and ended up being very good, but not as good as the demo had led us to think.

I'm guessing, from the reviews and such, that Killzone 2 falls into the first category.

Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go try Standard 2.

What ? I hated the demo but when i finally got the game i really liked it. So so soooo many times better than the demo.. Cutscenes that were worthy of the old movies.. great plot.. well executed... was extremely surprised.

What the hell is so special about this thread that makes it necessary to separate it from ALL THE OTHER THREADS TALKING ABOUT THE SAME THING!?

1.  They aren't all "just in the right place" and in fact you have to blast open containers for some of them.

2.  There are a variety of bad guys just like different soldiers in an army.  They don't have to look completely different.  Some guys use rocket launchers and 1 guy, a Saboteur, had a one-shot rifle.

3.  Normal difficulty.  The AI is pretty good, imo.  You have to look out at some point and try to shoot the enemy.  Do you expect them to just sit there until you get to them?

4.  How many more reviews do you need?  There are 40 reviews on metacritic and over 100 on this site's official thread (which would have been a good place to post thoughts...or the demo thread...or the many others...)

5.  You do realize that reviews aren't just based on the demo, I hope?

6.  Last I checked, CoD4 was a great game, but KZ2 isn't too similar, especially when it comes to multiplayer.

why do people have the need to create a new thread just to give their opinion about the killzone 2 demo?

Ot:

people complaining about the AI, i strongly disagree. Its on normal difficulty, the enemies try to flank you, they dodge grenades, lay down under the table shooting at you, some even shot the barrels while i was close by. Ok i am not going to lie, i've only died like 5-6 times during my 5 times playing the demo. But in comparison i could complete halo 1,2,3 without dying once on normal difficulty. Even on heroic i wouldnt die very often, maybe a couple of times per level(if that).

^My worst playthrough was like three deaths, I was messing around with pistols and no crosshair. My best is 0 deaths, which I also managed with no crosshair, and in German

Honestly? I think the thing that is special about it is that it is a great game (or at least the demo makes it seem so). A lot of people, including myself, were expecting it to be absolute shit. Now that it has turned out to be everything that they said it would be at E3-05, people are getting pissed.
