Guerilla has already reviewed the issue and determined that the controls function within their design spec.  So if you don't like the controls, feel that there is lag, or have some other issues with the demo, you should probably hold off on buying it.  I am not going to enter the bad design argument, it is just a matter of personal preference.  The aiming and look speed is very unique in this game and it will be a problem for some and not a problem for many.  I have completed every shooter on the hardest difficulties offered, and I really like the controls and aiming sensitivity found in Killzone. 

Also, I was referring to Gears of War 2 with my earlier comment.  I never played the original.

Edit: Apparently Guerilla is still looking into the control lag or whatever you want to call it.  Seb has stated this lag may be a demo only issue.

i find the way it controls helps build the atmosphere and feel of being in a war and shooing the opposition. the control complaints are best compared if someone was to complain saying forza and gt controls are to stiff and dont feel as good as burnout or n4s.

remember to judge it in context. if you were to swing a sledgehammer, it will take you time to build the momentum and when you want to stop it wont stop instantly. if you like what is meant to be a war simulator, you will love kz2. there is nothing like it on a console, if you want an arcade fps you wont.

 

 

Sorry but I hear this defence of the controls a lot and it is complete crap.

 

If it was meant to be real then why does a pistol handle the exact same way as a assualt rifle, and when in real life do I try to re-aim something and it just doesn't?

 

These are are just badly designed controls.

I dont mean to defend anyone here. I think SpartanFX what KylieDog is saying is that the controls themselves would probably be fine. It's the lag (which is about 3 times higher than games like Halo 3, Bioshock etc) that makes the experience jolt.

I'll be honest the whole time I played it, (as you can read in my OP) it just didnt feel right and made it seem like 'did I just hit that guy?'. I think thats what he means by bad design. Next to other FPS games it just feels well floaty is the best word.

It's still a good enjoyable game. Just unfortunately not one that hardcore FPS players will play that much online. This lag problem will surface more online than anywhere else.

 

If it's that bad, and people complain enough, it'll be patched! Why are people acting so "ZOMGLAGWHATAFLOP!"?

Oh, and BioShock's command lag (at least on PS3) was way worse than this. Not only that, the frame rate dropped often, the effects were sometimes rather awful, and at one point the game crashed and I had to restart my PS3.

And yet, it's one of my favourite games of all time, and my favourite FPS, if you can call it an FPS. Oh, and it had optional semi-auto aim. That was nice, because the full manual aiming was so god awful...

I had none of this lol. Not saying that you didn't but i certainly did not. Was probably patched before i played the game.

Why still give it a try? You already have that opinion that's probably not going to change

Call of Duty in space was either going to be done by Infinity Ward or somebody else so the question is, does Killzone 2 do things better or worse than Call of Duty 2 or 4? I'd say the enemies in Killzone 2 put it a step above the Call of Duty games and their respawning cannon fodder enemies.

Speaking of Infinity Ward, I wonder what they'll do with Modern Warfare 2.

I guess we'll see what happens come the 27th. If it's a big problem, I'm sure there's enough melted keyboard plastic from people complaining that the developers will consider tweaking it. MotherH is usually responsive and talks with the community.

 



First off you thought the opening was not CGI? wth man..... And from the demo I actually think I like the game a lil more, while the controlls do seem a little awkward and slower I will get used to it. As soem others said the AI is just great! the looks are great! the flow is great! and since when does someone play a demo for 24 hours with friends and then say its just a good game?

Im a little confused by this "Also with gameplay as refined as Half life 2, Gears 2, Halo 3 and Bioshock it's hard to love it" r u saying that there gameplay was bad so being as refines pulls away from the game? or am i reading this wrong as in your expectatiosn were so high that being on par with great looking games is not good enought?
